I don't know what it was about this post that makes me suspicious. (Wait, it's the cafepress link.) I can't say for *sure* that this is a lame-ass shill for some lame-ass shirts. (more inside)

The mefi user who made the post doesn't have the same name as the person who runs the website, but the one and only ask.metafilter question was also wedding related. Probably she just found this stumbling around for wedding stuff, but it seems kind of tacky.

I guess I could have just flagged it, but I've never done a callout before.

Bah! You people. I thought the stuff was hilarious! I'm getting married - I voiced softly over my shoulder, "Please shut up about your fucking wedding," and my bridezilla bamfed into existence right beside me.
"Oh, that. Yeah, I saw that a week ago - really funny stuff. I put it on my LJ."

In short, this is a fine post, they aren't just selling t-shirts, and I think you're just jealous because you aren't getting married.

Is it a double post? Did you call it out because it didn't meet your "funny" standards? Because I thought it was very funny. What wasn't funny was seeing MeTa getting all mucked up with your lame-o first post in the brown.

I am getting married in July and stumbled across these Web sites in the course of my wedding planning.

Sorry if you don't think the links are funny but why are you calling me out on this?

I understand your point absalom however I don't see the problem with the post. First, it seems very timely - not just for those getting married, but considering there are a billion shows on tv /right now/ dedicated to the whole wedding craze phenomenom. I think there's even a show called Bridezilla.

Anyway, it made me laugh. And it seems reasonable that chicken nuglet stumbled upon it while randomly looking around like she said.

It's certainly nothing near "the best of the web." It's not even marginally funny, and the attitude it expresses is kind opf pathetic. And it's a CafePress link. I can see why absolom found it suspicious.

Er, I understand that you might not be amused by a particular link (different strokes for different folks, and all), but I am truly baffled by the speed with which people around here jump to the conclusion that something they aren't interested in simply must be a self-linking shill. Real self-linking shills are usually blatantly obvious. You don't like the link, ok, but you're making some pretty unfair assumptions about the poster.

I think the problem was that this post suggested that it might link to some gruesome-but-funny stories of tyrannical brides, or some rants about the same. But instead it's just a not-very-funny t-shirt. Who cares?

also, for everyone who's not sure why the thread got called out:

1. it's essentially contentless.
2. it contains 3 total links, 2 of which go to the same site, the 3rd of which goes to a cafepress store which either sells THEIR shirts or the shirts of a fan.
3. The text of the post doesn't explain what the significance of the links are in any fashion, and one is forced to visit the site and it's related store 3 times before finding out that the post is entirely about that one site.
4. The test of the post seems to be about brides in general, but the links are about one site.

None of this is conclusive, but if you think there's no reason for suspicion, that's probably because absalom made the unfortunate mistake of saying "I guess I could have just flagged it, but I've never done a callout before," in the thread.

And here I flagged it because I'm so effing tired of having the f-bomb appear on the front page. So I come in here expect the fires of righteous damnation in re the same only to find out it's a self-link callout and/or Pepsi-Blue. Gosh I feel like an old man/prude.

OTOH, I've got a new verb to work into my daily vocabulary so it's not a total waste I guess.

The post was really weird - first of all, it makes a generalization that the website itself is making fun of - that women get psycho with wedding planning. So I don't quite understand what the FPP is going for. Some people seem to take the link seriously. I think it could have been a great post, if there were more links included.

I'm planning a wedding right now, it's going swimmingly, and nope, not a Bridezilla.
