sorry for the delay, I had to discuss something with the vice cops first.


Anyway, among those present at the historic meetup, amberglow (who, having cunningly played the metrosexual part, had already chatted up two young blonde women even before the meetup had officially started) and the elusive cactus, serious candidate for MetaFilter Most Badass Biker Dude. After having a very stilish cup of caffé macchiato / green tea at Corso Como 10, we all went shopping at the store, where amberglow, flexing his muscles, tried on several black cashmere sweaters (cactus and I, in the meantime, were examining the impressive display of 120 US $ Japanese designer dildos and vibrating balls, not to mention the massive Warhol bananas).
We also went to a very interesting Bill Owens photography show

I'm only a few hours away, and could have conceivably made it. I guess I'll have to wait another year (or ten) for the Vienna/Budapest/Szombathely meet-up..

0729 and 0730 -- it's amberglow and cactus (with me holding the shoutout card in the first pic). in the third pic, it's me and cactus.
on the card (my sharpie isn't sharp enough, apparently) "ciao a tutti", hello everybody.

This brings up an interesting question. Is anyone ever nervous about going to one of these things and having someone you don't particularly care for show up, as well? I tend to think my evening would be soured somewhat if I was sitting across the table from the person who made these comments.

GeekAnimator - I've found that if one wants to have a good time, one will. Also, people who are complete dicks online aren't always complete dicks in real life. I'm not defending those rather abhorrant comments, but sometimes people say things online that are really at odds with how they are in person.

So no, I personally have never been nervous about it, but matteo and amberglow (and nearly romakimmy) met me even though I'm a 5$ noob and complete stranger and it seemed to turn out okay. :) And I've met dozens of people from other forums and the majority of the time it works out very well. The worst that's ever happened is that I found out a person just wasn't very interesting.

GeekAnimator, I second cactus, though I haven't yet made any MeFi meetups. I almost managed one in NYC and then got waylaid by things domestic. Being a 5$ noob does make me feel slightly spooked, but that won't stop me next time.

Now, where can I get an interfaith cashmere sweater?!
