comment counts in MeTa July 3, 2003 8:59 PM Subscribe
Trivial pony: when inside MeTa threads, could we have a count of total comments, like we do in the Blue? I know the comment counts are there on the MetaTalk home, but it might be nice, even if only for consistency of UI, to be able to tell how many comments without having to back out and re-enter.
Read MeFi with a tabbed browser, like Mozilla/Netscape. The leftmost tab is the front page, subsequent tabs are linked material and MeFi thread pages. It's really amazingly hard to live without once you get used to it.

So we can all add more throwaway comments in an attempt to hit a milestone on some thread that will be gone and forgotten next week? 397, 398, 399, 400... boy, can't wait for more of that.

Or if you're wedded to IE, use a tabbed-interface (and more!) IE wrapper like MyIE2 (site is down at the moment - Google it, I guess). Most excellent. I love particularly the ability to highlight anything, drag it, and have it open in a new tab (ie urls as text resolve to the url, words fire off a google search, images open alone, etc. One of the little things that've kept me from going Mozilla Firebird yet.)

Read MeFi with a tabbed browser
Agreed. It's the only way I read MeFi anymore.
It's really amazingly hard to live without once you get used to it.
Just like MeFi itself.

ok, i was resisting this but, here goes:
Read MeFi with a taskbar-equipped OS, like Windows 2000. The leftmost button is the front page, subsequent buttons are linked material and MeFi thread pages. It's really amazingly hard to live without once you learn to use your operating system.

No, I'm sorry. None of your solutions require coding time on Matt's part to satisfy my capricious whims. Keep trying.

right click instead of drag
Too much work! (Yeah, arbitrary, I know. That said, there's a monster buttload of other neat stuff that MyIE2 does too, and well, but it's a close race, definitely, with some of the mozilla plugins coming out. Firebird still loads waaay to slow on my old P2 400, though.)

What if we all chipped in and just bought him a giant hamster wheel instead?
With a built in web cam, of course...
