Yeah, that's a timeout from weblogs.com. I'm getting them on my Movable Type weblog too, so I think dave's weblogs.com server is just busy. I should hide that from the user though.

Does that thing ever not timeout? Since blo.gs and blogrolling got their own pingers, I've stopped bothering with weblogs.com to be honest. The recurrent error message means that I was having to use extra clicks to get back to the editing screen in MT, and I'm naturally lazy at heart.

I have it timeout once a month or so.

walrus, it times out often for me too, or says that blog hasn't changed (when it has in a big way) quite often. I try not to bother with more than once a week, and do it on other hours, which helps. [do afternoon EST instead of morning EST]

Is weblogs.com anything other than a proof of concept, anyway? There has to be a better way of finding new blogs you'll like, and there's definitely better ways of keeping up with the ones you've found that you do....

In short, what is it good for?

It served a purpose once; I can remember (back in those halcyon days...) when you could see about twelve hours worth of updates on it, and each "hour" had a dozen weblogs. I guess they don't see any point in closing it; although with domain-name gold like that surely they could think of some way to funk-i-fy it. blo.gs performs the service much better.
