zipcode query pony wanted May 12, 2003 7:19 AM   Subscribe

I respect the new zipcode geotracker as much as the next guy, but I think it would be that much cooler if there were a page where we could enter a zipcode and see the users around it. I'm road-tripping next week, and it would be awesome to see which of my favorite MeFites lie en route.

Just change your zipcode on your user page and save it. Write down the results. Rinse. Repeat.

Or just search for the cities you'll be hitting, find someone with that City in their profile and check their near-bys.

(Where you heading, anyways, kaibutsu?)

Speaking of which, whatever happened to the official Metafilterian latitude-longitude trackerTM? Or, as Jim Morrison asks in The Doors: "Where's the feast they promised us?" ("They" being, in this case, mathowie.)

Where you heading, anyways, kaibutsu?

I don't know if it's true, but I heard he's planning to ride the snake to the end of time. Whatever that means.

well, yeah, but I'm lazy, see? And using dial-up. refreshing that user and customize page twenty times ain't fun.

[starting from ol' st. louis, going west through Kansas City, followed by (connect the dots) Topeka KS, Denver CO, Boulder CO, Flaming Gorge WY, Salt Lake City, UT, Boise ID, Portland OR, and finishing the journey in Eugene OR. I've got a car, and no real worries so long as I'm in Eugene by June 1st. This is gonna rock. Anyone on (or near) the route willing to provide food and/ or shelter to my broke college-boy ass will be responded to with great shows of magnanimous affection.]

Oh. Um. Which is to say, ride the snake until the end of time. Anyone wishing to provide food or shelter or accompany me on the trip will probably not remember their name by the time the thing is over with. Or that nasty Oedipal incident in the nth verse.

I'm staying with some friends and they've got lots of room
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk

Hey kaibutsu, I lie along that path! In Lawrence, right between KC and Topeka. But only until Friday. Then I'm 2.5 hours out of your way in Wichita.

wendell: PrinceV is a Rambling Boy.

[claven] Now your David Loggins is a cousin of Kenny Loggins of Footloose fame and while he wrote that Boston song, not the band Boston, but the song Rambling Boy which talks about your Boston springtimes, he also wrote a fair share of songs with the old Pirate, Jimmy Buffett, who, as far as can be determined, only recorded Rambling Boy according to some bad Kazaa lists. To wit, you confused your Mysterious Rhinestone Cowboy with your God's Own Drunk.[/claven]

You really won't find anything interesting on this route, other than the pangs of cultural isolation.

Although, I hear the girls in Salt Lake City are pretty easy.

Yes, interrobanger, my synapses have fallen into such severe decay since the 1970's that I can no longer distinguish "Come Monday" from "Please Come to Boston", except for the fact that they were the only two songs of the era with "Come" in the title that did not trigger a Beavis-and-Buttheadish reflex "heh heh heh, he said 'Come'..." from my college roommate. As long as I'm trying to come clean, let me say that my comment in the CSS Zen Garden thread was also a deeply stupid question ("Why replace text with graphics inside the CSS? To do all the CSS-based designs with different graphics demonstrated in the site, Bozo."). And to my personal knowledge, Dave Loggins has never been a "mooch with a guitar", but I'm not sure about either Jimmy or Warren Buffet. I'm just glad kaibutzu isn't coming to L.A., because in the year I've lived in my current address, I have not yet successfully given directions to it, even though it is less than 100 yards/meters from Ventura Blvd. Right now, I wonder if I can tell the difference between THIS Great Dane and this one. And my drums stopped years ago.

let me know when you make it to northern Greece, kaibutsu; I have an exceedingly uncomfortable couch with your name on it (and believe me, it wasn't easy to find a couch upholstered in "kaibutsu"). I'll even wash some sheets...
