RetroFilter. double? April 21, 2003 1:11 AM Subscribe
RetroFilter! Since "Eric Conveys an Emotion" was first posted over three years ago, both the contents of the link and the Metafilter community that discussed it have changed. Now that Metafilter has surpassed 25,000 threads, perhaps we could use a forum dedicated to the dredging up of old-school links from Metafilter's past? Alternatively, should we encourage "selective doubleposting" to Metafilter itself?
Can anyone honestly say they know everything they did three years ago? In perfect detail? Every site? Every word of every site?
People's memories don't work like that, and besides, the net is always 'under construction' (or should be).
I say if it's more than 18 months old, it recieved a good reception and is still as fun/interesting/thought provoking as back then, why not?
As long as we don't end up with every other post being MeFiGold, then I say do it.

As for the first part, well, I don't think we're in need of an entirely new forum for something such as that. I think it'd be interesting if someone went through and catalogued a few favorites and put them in their profile or some such thing (as some members already do), but beyond that I don't see a real need for it.
But who knows, really. I'm sure there are some people that would buy a leather-bound, monogramed, fifteen-thousand page collection of MetaFilter threads if it was available, so perhaps your idea will fly.
