eotvos memorial service details - May 13

Chicago area MeFites (and others): there will be a memorial service for eotvos (Erik Shirokoff) on Saturday May 13, 2023 both in person and over Zoom. Details can be found on this page. I am passing along this notification at the request of his friend Martin.

I took a moment to read his bio page on that memorial site. I had no idea about his remarkable career. As great a loss as he was to this community, his was a loss that truly impacts the whole world.

That's quite an obituary and a hell of a career. My condolences to all who knew him. It sounds like those of us who didn't get the chance to know him really missed out.

eotvos was an incredibly kind person. To me, personally, to so many others here and, from the ample evidence, in the in real life world. There will never be be enough kindness in either. We all were so lucky to have known him, however much or little that has been. He will always be a lamp as long as we remember him. Let that be always.
