[MeFi Site Update] March 22nd March 22, 2023 7:00 PM Subscribe
Hi there, MetaFilter!
It’s been a while! I’m happy to be back. The last Site Update was December 2nd. For now we are thinking about resuming regular site updates on a monthly basis.
You’ll find some updates regarding the site below. I’m looking forward to your feedback and questions.
Reminder: I will be the only mod monitoring this thread so please be patient as I reply to your feedback and questions.
Moderation
- I’m very happy to say that Brandon Blatcher has completed his training and is now taking solo shifts like any other mod.
General updates
- Jessamyn has gotten all the site’s tax information to the site’s accountant and they’ll be filed this week.
- SC nominations have been extended until this weekend and you can read more about that here.
- aielen and JHarris are planning a new round of events (with some names you might know!)
- aielen is putting the finishing touches on an explainer for the new site budget.
Technical changes
- Frimble fixed a few small bugs in FanFare and an issue that was causing “retired” badges showing up as “staff” on the new comments loading feature in some site themes.
- A cache issue affecting user tags has been resolved.
- MeFite majick has been approved by the SC to access the site's Github.
- The full FAQ was temporarily not showing to logged-out users, this has been fixed.
- The SC now has the ability to edit FAQ entries which will hopefully make the FAQ easier to update.
- The SC can now access weekly and monthly active users and signup data, this will be useful for more data-informed planning.
BIPOC Advisory Board
- The Global BIPOC board meets this Saturday, March 25th.
- Past minutes have been reviewed and approved and are pending addition to the landing page.

I love that there are MetaFilter events. That is all.

As far as I can tell, this is the only sentence on Metafilter that mentions the upcoming events, the first of which is in 48 hours, and involve two reasonably well-known Internet People, Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics, Wed 29th, 7PM ET) and Drew Curtis (Fark, Fri 31, 7 PM ET).
Until I hit 'post comment', as far as I can tell, there is literally absolutely nowhere on this site that actually mentions that these specific events with these people are happening or when. I learned about this from a toot!
Like, I hate to add pressure to the various mod teams and committees, but this seems like the left hand letting down the right hand; A+ for event organizing, D- for publicizing.

I totally missed the boat on these events, they seem neat, but Eventbrite doesn't make it easy to understand what's going on (I almost closed the link straight away when I saw 'November 2022', assuming it was over).
The previous event recordings say "Sales end on Apr 1, 2023", does that mean they're only available for a few more days, or is that a deadline that's going to get extended?

Yes, would someone make a MeTa about the events? It will be embarrassing if we have few people show up.

(There is an AskMe post up about the events, and JHarris has been posting about them on their Mastodon account.)

I am the person who just put up the posts on the blue and green. It would be good to have something more official. And probably someone can make a better post than I wrote.
