My partner celebrated his 40th in lockdown and wished for a double decker pizza. This is what I made him instead. #sweetart

I just finished a bas relief of an American bullfrog floating on the surface of a pond.

vegartanipla, another hat tip to the beautiful bullfrog art.

Also, very small world, my family rented the Oak Ridge Farmhouse at White Rock Conservatory, where you did this work, last summer. I have no idea if this is what you were going for, but I thought your bullfrog piece was evocative of something I always think of when visiting Iowa-- a beautiful landscape so deeply affected by mass agriculture, in this case the eutrophication of rivers/streams/lakes. I really liked the sustainable agriculture mission of White Rock, and hope your art furthers that mission.

mcstayinskool, how neat that you have been to Whiterock Conservancy as well! It's a compelling place. Yes, my artwork is very much about the human/nature balance (imbalance) and I'm so glad you got both beauty as well as loss from Surface. I've gathered from speaking with various audiences that the darkness in much of my artwork often isn't as evident to viewers as it is to me; on the other hand, I do try to make pieces that leave room for viewer interpretation and narratives so it's natural that those will differ from my own.

If you're interested, I've thus far completed one other representative artwork (another bas relief of another species of frog) from my Whiterock residency, and I also completed a bunch of abstract chromatograms that are literal landscapes of the conservancy printed from environmental samples. I additionally harvested some of the "blue" clay from deposits in the river cliffside, and plan to make ceramics with it (there's a whole process to figuring out the firing temperatures involved, so I doubt I'll have finished Whiterock ceramics until at minimum spring).

Speaking of the beautiful landscape being deeply affected by mass agriculture, have you been to Sioux Falls? The falls churn up a foam in the spring due to agricultural runoff that in concert with insufficient park safety features (the latter now hopefully addressed) has led to quite a few people drowning.

Thanks for sharing more of your residency artwork!

The last time I was in Sioux Falls was summer 1994 for a free concert in the park put on by Gateway Computing (remember them? cow-themed computer company, almost as big as Dell at that time?). The concert was Santana, and I was there trying to woo a girl I was very sweet on at the time. A much better memory than foam churn drownings :(

I am (really really) no artist, but last summer during the pandemic we had a backyard "It's Not Fair" to replace the canceled Minnesota State Fair. In State Fair tradition, we had a seed art competition, and I tried to recreate Magritte's The Son of Man.

I've just started a mini business making custom clothes! Basically I was jealous of all the super-fun prints my baby got on her clothes, and have learned to make my own XD You can see them on my twitter!

Here's a page I made for a local collaborative screen printed calendar for this past March. Two colors, including glow-in-the-dark green. Sharp-eyed viewers may notice that the calendar is readable both upside-down and right-side up.

My friends have started calling it the "sexy lamb" calendar.

I don't have next year's design finished and printed yet, but suffice to say it does not feature a sexy lamb.
