In fact, jessamyn did totally paste the link into our chat during the podcast, but the transcript-parsing code that turns said chats into the links and such for the podcast post predates FanFare slightly and so absolutely barfs when it gets a FanFare link. Usually I work around this successfully; I tried to get clever this time and apparently caused it to disappear entirely and forgot about it!

Today I learned that a newsletter is something that exists on the internet, rather than solely in the mailboxes of my childhood. Sometimes I suspect our hosts are just making stuff up to see who will believe them.
I'm not convinced the "Lazy Caterer" is well named. Solving a challenging optimization problem sounds like a lot more work than making a regular grid with a few extra lines. But, it's a fun and well-posed problem and I'm happy to have learned about it here. And, as someone who hates pie and cake and always feels obligated to eat some at events, schemes that result in tiny, less-frosted pieces are really appealing.

Props where they're due: There was a post about the shutdown of Yahoo Answers two weeks before the one I made, which I wasn't aware of before posting because we somehow each linked to entirely different resources. That thread managed to capture most of Metafilter's snark energy regarding Yahoo Answers and is probably why my later thread tailed off kinda quickly.

I have now been watching other media since we recorded this (and since I listened to it) and I swear they have ALL had "We'll get there at some point" in there somewhere. Maybe we're ahead of the meme curve. Or very very badly behind it.
