Site Update #5, 2020

Hey folks! It is another Arbitrary Two-Week Period and we have another update for you! Things are chugging along at Mefi Headquarters, although a few things (the FAQ updates, the public dev backlist) have been delayed because I have managed to find a way for even a pandemic-compliant misanthrope to get really outrageously sick (hint: it involves a bullseye rash and then a lot of napping.)

Comments are turned off. Drop us a line at the Contact Form if you have feedback, and you’re welcome to open a MetaTalk thread for any subject you want to discuss with the community.

Development:

• MetaTalk posts will now be marked with the Staff tag when posted by staff. (Since this is the only subsite where we post in an official capacity, this is not going to be rolled out to any other subsites.)
• Technical work on replacing the “Gender/Pronouns” field has been completed. We’re working on tools to alert all users to the change so they can fill out the new “Pronouns” field if they wish, since the change will entirely remove the existing field. (Like most profile fields, this is completely optional and will not appear if it’s blank.)
• We’re still working on improving the Fundraising page!
• Folks have asked for a longer public to-do list for development. As mentioned above, this is itself on the to-do list but got delayed. More news next update! Bugs, fixed and otherwise:
  • There’s a Safari issue described here. As far as we can tell so far, this is a browser issue and not one that we can fix, but we welcome further detailed reports if you have them!
  • You can once again follow the activity of the Anonymous account.

Fundraising:

• Chatfilter thread #3 is up! We're still accepting both suggestions and votes - visit the main thread to do both.
• Travelingthyme's Dream Week has been extended to Dream Month! See all the posts at #dreamweek.
• Jessamyn has done 20 sponsored posts, nearly one per day, and has a bunch more in the hopper. Thanks to everyone who contributed, you still can! Details in the SAIT post.

Advisory Board:

• Travelingthyme ran the first BIPOC Advisory Board meeting on 9/20. It went well! We’re working on the protocol for posting updates/minutes with details, as getting consent from all members and respecting everyone’s privacy needs is our first priority. Here's Thyme's brief update.
• The next meeting is in the process of being scheduled.
• We are paying an honorarium per meeting for each board member, and we welcome funding for it! If you want to help with this, you can do that via the Funding Page. Just send a message via the Contact Form or to [e-mail] and let us know to earmark your contribution for that purpose.
• If any POC are interested in participating in the board or receiving meeting notes regularly, please email [e-mail]

Documentation:

• Loup is finalizing a GDPR compliance plan in preparation for meeting with an attorney. Details once we have them hammered out!
