Ah but if I have one discrete kind of sheep, and another discrete kind of sheep, and I was counting up the discrete kinds, I might have two distinct sheeps.

That's how it works for fish. If you have lots of fish of one species, you just have a lot of fish. If there are multiple species, you have fishes.

Ägg doesn't do that sort of distinction. It's a regular countable noun, it just happens to have the same form in singular and plural.

There is a massive inaccuracy in that post, though. Beans on Toast is absolutely not a breakfast dish. It is an evening meal Of Much Laziness. Kids meal translated to student/comfort food later in life.

I mean, you can have beans and have toast as part of a fry up for breakfast, yes. Absolutely. But slices of buttered toast with a hot can of beans poured over it (possibly with a dash of Worcestershire sauce, pepper and MAYBE grated cheese if you're not a purist) is not a breakfast meal.

No-one said it was simple.

Just because the vowels you don't have in English look like fancy-ass versions of vowels you know, they aren't. You clearly don't know what you're doing with them, and I recommend you stop before you hurt yourself. It takes træning to use them safely.

If you have too many äggs you’ll give yourself dieresis.

That said, “Give me your recipes for X” AskMe is my favourite AskMe. I’ve gotten so many great recipes and ideas from answers to these questions.
