146: GO VOTE November 5, 2018 2:21 PM Subscribe
It's a remarkably short one this month—just over 50 minutes—because my throat was sore in what turned out to be the preface to a nasty cold that knocked me out all weekend, which is why we recorded this last week and it's only going up to day! But here it is! Also, vote!

jessamyn: "Let's get in touch with StarryEyes Smith and ask him what the hell he's playing because he probably knows."
FWIW Iris Gambol's ID of the guitarist as Patti Smith's sister Kimberly seems pretty solid: they look alike, "Kimberly Smith" and "Kim" are mentioned in other videos in the same YouTube channel, and "Starry Eyes" seems to be a reference to Patti Smith's song "Kimberly." I don't mean to nitpick, because what do I know--I never would have gotten that--I just thought that comment seemed under-appreciated.

About the Bob Ross painting; one link was to Ann Arbor District Library (many other libraries in the US do this). Preparations involve getting a lot of canvas boards, an assortment of paints on paper plates, and enough staff to cope as every event is at full capacity ("If you Bob Ross it, they will come", as one librarian there told me).
Highly related; it's often worth checking on a regular basis what events your local public library (if you have a local one) are putting on, and whether they are running new things. I've been to a whole bundle of hands-on arty events I would never have otherwise considered doing (and I detested compulsory art classes at school), but my local public library was running it.

The only thing I know about hockey is that Wayne Gretsky was a hockey player and so was Mario Lemieux and that I'm probably spelling the latter's name wrong but he was really good in NHL '94 for the Genesis, which my cousin owned and we'd play it whenever I was over at their house.

Sad/proud to report that the picture of my head with my dog's head sewn into it is part of a (self-imposed) halloween tradition of gruesome photoshopped selfies, and not an IRL makeup/mask kinda job. Super glad you were fooled, though!

I just want to share that this Halloween I met a kid dressed up as Bob Ross. He had a huge red wig. It was awesome.

Lemieux lives about a half mile from me; I'll let him know you say hi.
