Metafilter affiliate linking plug in? September 19, 2018 7:32 AM   Subscribe

I had to recently sign into a different Chrome account and I lost my plugins/extensions. One of which was the one that automatically added the Metafiler affiliate link when I visited Amazon. I cannot for the life of me find it again despite numerous site and google searching attempts

There are links on this page, but that's not what I'm looking for. This plugin added the affiliate code even if I typed "amazon.co.uk" to my browser. I remember it had options for the other domains as well.

On that note, two other requests:
1) Make the "Help fund metafilter" link a much more obvious link, part of the regular navigation somewhere. I just accidentally clicked on "Hide this" and now I can't find it *headdesk*
2) Once this extension is found, add a link to that to this page so that others may install it

I'd like this to be a public MeTa post so that others in my predicament can benefit and also educate others who may not have been aware of this feature.

Thank you!

The link to the funding page is always at the bottom of the page (with other miscellaneous "where do I find that again" links like the archives, wiki, contact form etc). We've been talking about a more permanent placement somewhere more visible, too; definitely a good reminder.

We've discussed this previously and come to the conclusion that it shouldn't be added to the repo, but you can still find it here from that pull request.

No, it’s not that. The thing I used before looked like a webpage with tables. Each row was for the different Amazon domains and it would have a link that would do something to the browser so that if I visited Amazon.co.uk from anywhere (or if I typed it in the address bar) it would automatically append the affiliate ID to the end.

When I click on that, it's just raw html code. What am I doing wrong?

like_neon: that link is to a "userscript", which get processed in your browser via a compatible add-on (more info here in the mefi wiki). I use Tampermonkey for this (Chrome | Firefox).

Once installed, you should be able to revisit the script link and install.
(If you are not an amazon prime member, after installing you'll want to edit and change the word smile to www down at the very bottom of the script.)

I'm happy to help via memail.
