Redirect Pony Request

Sometimes I browse MetaFilter while logged out. If I click Log In to comment and fill out the form, I get redirected to the main page. Usually my goal is to return to the post I was originally on. Right now that means a back-back-refresh. Thoughts on changing this?

Ponies can be redirected to the corral.

This seems reasonable enough that we're now suspicious that it is hard for some reason. We'll add it to the list of things to take a look it.

I don't know anything about the logistics of this, but I know 80-90% of the sites I use operate like this, so I assumed there were reasons.

This is a sentence which I could have said once a week for basically the entirety of my work life, if only I'd had a way to put it that succinctly. And now I do.

The regular login process redirects you back to the page you were on, right? Just not when commenting?

I'll add it to my list of things to do. My feeling on it is that the expected thing was probably that you browse the site logged in, but the login page, when possible, bringing you to the page you were on before you logged in is just polite.

Meanwhile, new tab, login, back to preferred tab, refresh.

When I browse unlogged and then decide to log in, it returns me to the page I was on before logging in, not to the main page, so I don't have to do any tabbing or refreshing.

It hasn't always worked for me, but after resetting my browser it does seem to be doing what I asked. Then again all the people (including mods) so far not telling me I'm crazy is telling me that maybe I'm not crazy? Could be, though.
