Yay! Coming back to win the league last season was my proudest accomplishment of the year. (I haven't done a lot this year.) Bring it.

I have a reasonable knowledge of American Football, following the sport on and off for something like thirty years. I've played in the Metafilter fantasy NFL league for the last two years, putting in hours and hours into choosing my initial squad, and in choosing which players to use each week.

I've been consistently rubbish.

I occasionally note soccer headlines if I'm reading a physical newspaper, so for this league I've picked a couple of players I've heard of, otherwise I picked players whose names I liked, or who reminded me of someone I know or knew.

I have literally no idea what I'm doing, but I thought it would be a nice way to be slightly more in touch with the sport, and as an interesting contrast to the other leagues I'm in - and I'm intrigued how scoring works in this version of fantasy football.

So... let's see how it goes...

Yes hello MetaFootball, is Mourinho who is special fantasy for all who do football. Please keep me in your fantasy! ... and not Wenger - he is not fantastic enough for your beautiful dark twisted fantasy. Not like special one.

I've played for the last few years but last season I started a new job halfway through that takes far too much of my time and probably will until next year at least. Scufflin' Hillbillies will have to sit this season out, but I wish you all the best of luck!
Goddammit, really- I had fun with this before.

Maybe I'll just set up a team at the very beginning to be a ghost team...

There's a Draft FPL component this year. Any interest in a MeFi draft league?

I do a draft league every year. It's a very different kind of challenge and good fun. We use Draft Fantasy Football for it, which is free.

I'd certainly be up for doing a Mefi one that used the official FPL site, but it's probably worth noting that because it uses the same points system as the main game, the scoring will favour attacking players a lot. With that in mind, any league with more than about 8 players in is probably going to be tough on those who don't manage to land "form" players quickly.

My other caveat is that draft does really work best when people are engaged with the game. If players drift away mid-season it sort of ruins the rest of the season for those who remain.

Certainly worth a go though!

I've decided I really do want to be in a draft league, preferably on a separate site with better scoring. Is anyone else interested? Or have all those ships already sailed.

OK, I've joined - I swore I wasn't going to do it this year (I lose interest about halfway through if I don't make any progress in the cup competition), but my husband goaded me into it.
