... that is all.
Apple is a hardware company and Google is a software company.

If by "classic" you mean "Professional White" then you are the most correct people on MetaFilter ever.

To provide some counterpoint, Firefox works well on Android.

I was just writing an email to a guy the other day pointing out that the Gopher server dishes up those long threads real fast.

1. Apparently I haven't used iOS Chrome in like 4 years and it's really weird looking at what I had bookmarked back then. Lots of blogspot.
2. Chrome has a "close all tabs" button. GOODBYE AND FUCK YOU FOREVER SAFARI!

Trying to decide if it's worth $1.99 to get a gopher client for my iPhone but you can definitely get gopher plugins that allow Firefox to do gopher stuff or use this proxy if you use another browser.

For those wondering, the problem with iOS Safari and very long MetaFilter posts is that it crashes and reloads the page all the damn time. Chrome doesn't do that, so that is a good thing in my opinion!

Chrome has a "close all tabs" button.
It also has a "Close all incognito tabs" button which I can theorize might be useful to someone somewhere, I have no idea

Yes but letting two dollars standing in the way of Gopher? Let's face it. Librarians are only cheap on things that aren't important.

I have to admit that the political threads are just way too long and unwieldy and I'm never going to get to 'inbox zero' on them. When I'm busy I pretty much just read selected bits fit the 'Popular' feeds. When I'm less busy and can deal with more of the thread than makes mefi's popular threshold I have a jupyter notebook that parses the things and makes a curated list of comments for me.
Nothing over about 300 comments is ever going to get enough of my attention to be read exhaustively. 1500, 2000, 3000 comments just seems designed for failure and makes me cry on behalf of the mods.

Once upon a time, I was all proud that I actually started a 100 post thread. Now, it all seems so quaint. A product of a quieter, less intense time. A thing that current me scoffs at. But as a bonus, I now have an iPhone AND and iPad. Things ten-years-ago me wouldn't have dreamed of having. However, I just use them to read Johnny Wallflower posts because: Puppies. So I guess I learned something. Maybe?
Nota bene: I learn nothing.

Data point: trading my first-gen iPad Air for the new iPad Pro makes long threads load much more better. Carry on.

On my X201 Thinkpad, which is sporting a modest 4 GB of RAM and running Linux Mint, reading megathreads works fine in SeaMonkey. Never had a problem.
But Chromium and Pale Moon are okay too.

you can close all tabs in safari iOS by holding down on the button that brings you to the tab switcher.
after seven years of using iOS i only discovered this last week.

Another example of why I'm so frustrated with Apple's software these days. The UI is becoming so dumbed-down in the name of "elegance" that it's painful to use.

That's, uh, weird. All browsers on iOS use the same engine. Apple doesn't allow custom browser engines on the App Store. So it's Safari all the way down.
BTW, Firefox is also on iOS (also of course using WebKit). It syncs with Firefox Sync, looks nice and has a better private browsing mode than Safari.
Safari supports content blockers though.
