Happy Moderators' Covfefe June 13, 2017 5:25 AM   Subscribe

Well, not much has happened over the past year, and things have been pretty easy for the mods, so I hesitate to even make a post to celebrate Moderators' Day this year. It seems a bit off to thank the mods for all their hard work, thoughtfulness, excellent communication skills, and infinite patience when they have basically been lounging by the pool at MetaFilter World Headquarters eating bonbons and /hamburgers all year.

I'm kidding, of course. It's been a trying year for many people, and MetaFilter would not be the respite and resource that it currently is were it not for the continuing efforts of our world-class moderation team.

Please join me in thanking all of our moderators and technical support - past and present - on this, the tenth anniversary of the original Moderators' Day. Thank you cortex, restless_nomad, taz, LobsterMitten, goodnewsfortheinsane, Eyebrows McGee, vacapinta, and frimble. Special thanks to our moderators emeriti, jessamyn, mathowie, and pb.

Aw, thank you, Rock Steady! It's hard to express how much this Covfefe means to us! Truly, no one knows. Just the president and a small group of people.

Thanks for the M Love! :)

Thank you, mods! You are the reason why this is my favorite place on the internet to come for discussion and insights on this flaming hellscape of a presidential administration incredibly boring and non-eventful political situation in which nothing at all has happened for months.

I love you all very much and thank you for all the hard work you do.

This is a good idea, and it's not too late! Maybe it's as simple as putting together a MeTa encouraging people to donate and logging the total quantity in honor of the mods? Is that something people would participate in?

I think I've probably said this elsewhere but the last time the U.S. government drove me into dust with their choices (2002-2005, more accurately), I went a little off the rails and this time is even worse; part of me being able to deal with the last couple of years is because I'm older and (believe it or not) wiser, but a lot of it has to do with the community MetaFilter has given me, both virtually and in Chicago. I have no idea where I'd be without it right now but it would probably really suck. Thanks to the mods for everything they've done and do to keep it going.

Your paintings are basically the cube version of All Work And No Play Make Jack A Dull Boy and we're all concerned that there's a Jack Torrance moment about to happen in your life and we're concerned.

Nonsense, there is absolutely nothing worryingly progressively dissociative in my work. Now gimme the bat.

You mods do a difficult job very, very well. I care and admire most about people their "goodness" -- how much they contribute to the world and the lives of those people around them. But second only to that is what I would call professional competence and excellence. There is something tremendously satisfying to me, in even a visceral sense, in watching someone do something with consistent excellence. That's how I feel about the mods here, and it's not something I've seen to this degree anywhere else.

I am not the measure of all things, of course, and my assessment is worth only what it is worth. But I think that others of us who have been here a long time feel and think the same. The mods here are inspiring in their acumen, nuance, and good will in the face of frequent challenge. I think that's something to be celebrated, and for the mods themselves to rightfully be proud of.

One thanks the splendid MetaFilter Moderators for the celerity of their duties, their constant exipotic effect on comments in contentious threads, their oft-gaudiloquent tone during the most trying of times, and for their continued efforts to obstrigillate those who would make this hallowed place a less balanced arena of informed and considered debate. May your guacamole never be sinapistic in nature.
