Can't see Metafilter posts on my iPhone October 10, 2016 11:08 PM Subscribe
I have an iPhone 6S running iOS 9.3.5 I can't see the comments in Metafilter posts. All other sites seem to display properly, with the exception of one I can think of where an option button appeared on others' phones but not mine. I am logged in. I have tried different Metafilter display preferences. What gives?
The post header and topic will display, then there's a bunch of blank space, then the "Related Posts" stuff at the bottom of the page. This doesn't seem to be a new thing having to do with an update; it's always been like this.

A further question, to follow up on what Taz asked: Do you currently have any adblockers active?
For Safari, you can see that in Settings/Safari/Content Blockers
The place where I've seen this behaviour before, if it helps, was browsers trying to offer a simpler view of the site and therefore stripping out comments, like Safari's Reader View or formerly Instapaper.

It was 1blocker. Completely forgot I had ever installed that. Thanks.

Formerly Instapaper? A quick try with iOS 10 & latest Instapaper shows initial post, large vertical space, then related posts & footer links.
Instapaper has had a reddit mode for a long time, and I've been advocating for a similar exception for *.metafilter.com.

Huh. Works for www.metafilter.com but not for metatalk.metafilter.com. I'll write them again and ask about extending the exception to the subdomains.

Pfft! I can turn around in like, under a minute. I don't even get dizzy anymore, since I stopped sniffing all that glue. But sure, some internet person turns around and everyone is like, "LOL +1 Like Emoji-face HEART!!!"
I tell you, I coulda been an internet somebody TOO, what with all the money and fame and little children coming up to you in the street just to hug you and cry and say "thank you for the internet!!!" But I chose SNIFFING GLUE for my vocation - because it was my CALLING. And if I wasn't stuck to this damn chair, I'd get up outta my seat and walk the hell away from thissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss ah shit my keyboard is full of glue - ok just forget I commented anythinggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

While we're talking about iphones, something weird happened when I updated to ios10. Now in Safari when I click into a MF comment box the box doesn't resize to fit my screen. So it looks like this and is unusable where before it would be sized to fit my not-huge phone screen. Any solutions? (Besides stopping posting on MF from my phone which is probably for the best anyway.)

Have heard no other reports! Is this Modern or Classic? Have you (this is dumb but who knows) blown out your cookies? Does it happen in both profile and landscape?

Once I resize the browser window it looks like this but then when I keep typing. I have to keep scrolling sideways to see the text like this. Tiny text! If I click out then back in, say to link to something, it's back to this view.
