MetaFilter on Gitter? August 31, 2016 4:04 PM   Subscribe

According to Social Explorer, there are 230 Mefites on GitHub and thousands more on Twitter. While MetaFilter Chat is a great institution, I’m curious if folks would be interested in having a chat community on Gitter as well - it’s a sort-of-Slack that uses Github and Twitter credentials for validation. (This is quite definitely fixing a problem that doesn’t exist, but sometimes asking about those is a way to find out that they do.)

It seems that some problems that don’t exist just don’t exist.

I'd be much more inclined to sign into/monitor an actual Slack team for metafilter than Gitter (since I'm running/joined to a bunch of slack teams already), but if there's sufficient interest from others in Gitter, I'm game.

While we're throwing out trendy web whatever-point-oh reinventions of the chatroom, let's put Discord out there too.

If everyone starts chatting on slack (is that called 'slacking off'?) who will have time to push the database limits on the next huge political thread?

I was way more excited about this before I realized that I misread the title and it was not about MetaFilter on Glitter. I had no idea what being "on glitter" could mean but it sure sounded exciting! And then the soul-crushing disappointment as I figured it out.

I think it'd be great if we could get a Diaspora group going.

2nding Discord. It's great for any multiplayer gaming chats. My friends and I use it instead of Steam because Steam chat functionality is really crap.

Is this something for which I'd have to Learn To Code?

Is this something for which I would have to have the extra time to be sucked ? 'Cause my timesucks already are all lined up like marching ranks of anorexic bedbugs as it is...
