The phrase "renegade librarian" would be a pretty good two word movie pitch.

Hey! I thought this worked out pretty well. People who hate listening to my chipmunk voice can wait for a transcript next week (someone I hired via MeFi Jobs!).

It's been a nutty week. I performed a wedding for my foster brother over the weekend. The Vermont Library Conference (and the award, woooo) was Wednesday. I handed out Passports all day long and gave a talk about the digital divide which went well. Headed home and crashed then got up yesterday to go to VPR's studios. The producer guy turned out to be a friend of ocherdraco. My pal terrapin tweeted in!

VPR gave me the option of going to the studio in Montpelier, closer to me, or driving all the way to Colchester and actually getting to be in the room with Jane Lindholm, the host. I went for the latter so spent a lot of the day in the car. Jane was incredibly gracious and nice and good at her job and we had a lovely conversation. I made her a Wikipedia page as a "hostess gift." Got a VPR friend to promise to show me the creepy basement next time I am there. Drove home via the Winooski Library (added to my VT 183 quest) and the Athens Diner and made it back in time to get soundly trounced at bar trivia (we always win! What happened?) which was fine because everyone was ribbing me about how faaaaaaaamous I was. Up today finishing up the syllabus for the University of Hawaii library school class I am teaching (remotely) on Monday.

Johnny Wallflower, I got your postcard. Thank you!

Pfft. I used to commute from Colchester (and then Vergennes) to Montpelier three times a week.

I asked a question about becoming a librarian almost exactly 9 years ago and got wonderful responses from a lot of MeFibrarians including Jessamyn. Unfortunately I had to put that dream on hold a bit, but as of today, I appear to be on the verge of getting an amazing job at a specialty library where I work, so listening to this interview over the weekend was really inspirational. Thanks again for everything, Jessamyn!

Hey that is great! You know you can now practically commute to Montpelier from Chittenden County, the future is here (plus I used to commute from Bethel to Rutland!). Checking out that old thread is like a time machine, so many old dead links. Send me a note telling me about your new job and I'll send you a jobwarming present. Congrats!

Hi jessamyn -- congrats on the award! I also really enjoyed listening to the interview. Very well done. I liked that Jane Lindholm sounded pretty prepared from the questions she asked. A couple of my favorite parts off the top of my head:
- when Jane Lindholm asked about Dr. Carla Hayden (ramping up the excitement in your voice)
- that moment at the end when she talked about wanting to learn more about moss, and you gave the perfect response mossarium.com (I somehow did not know about this site of yours, so I'm glad you mentioned it).

Johnny Wallflower, thank you for posting. I guess accessing radio shows/podcasts/audio over the Internet is a concept I often take for granted now, but it's so neat to be able to hear this, when I'm not anywhere near Vermont.
