That sort of fits. Sort of like how Instagram filters are now an idea of an idea of vintage camera filters. Soon enough we'll be far enough removed from the original concept that it'll lose all meaning, like how "posting" on forums is so far removed from its postal/mailing context that we don't think about it.

Yes, the app logo design is dumb, and looks really lame on my phone but what's bothering me the most is the font color being flattened to black. Before all of the clickable text was dark blue (locations, usernames etc), how is making navigation less apparent - useful? {{shaking fist}}

They would have to say "an adult toy the name of which starts with d" or something.
They would refer to the sex toy as "Mr. Toy". Whereas The New Yorker would find some reason to refer to e.g. dildo-ology so they could render it with diaeresis as "dildoölogy".

A dildo, as in a sex toy, was first referenced in the NYT in 1969, in a story called "Sacred and Profane."

The first usage of the word in the NYT was about a fight between two men named Dildo and Peters; prior to '69, the majority of the references were to a book of reportedly execrable quality named "Dildo Cay."

Serv.: He hath songs for man or woman, of all sizes; no milliner can so fit his customers with gloves: he has the prettiest love-songs for maids; so without bawdry, which is strange; with such delicate burthens of dildos and fadings, ‘jump her and thump her;’ and where some stretch-mouthed rascal would, as it were, mean mischief and break a foul gap into the matter, he makes the maid to answer, ‘Whoop, do me no harm, good man;’ puts him off, slights him with ‘Whoop, do me no harm, good man.’posted by klangklangston at 9:35 PM on May 13, 2016 [2 favorites]
This thread seems to have lost touch with reality at some point. I mean, ok, Cortex, was the 'mill a meter' comment a really bad joke or a reference to something I know nothing about? Both? Then the whole Dildo Cay thing, apparently that has some backing in reality according to Chrysostom's link, but Shakespearean dildos? That just got me to Google for 'Dildos in Shakespeare', which, well thanks for getting that included in my permanent internet record.

This is the kind of thing that can be rolled out naturally at essentially no extra cost. All the DOT needs to do is include both units on signage as it naturally gets replaced.
