I went to re-enable the greasemonkey script shared here, which turns "Sarah Palin" into "Porky Pig" but I no longer have it. It's not in the wiki or at greasyfork.org. Anyone still have it who is able to share it?
Thank you to Metafilter as a whole for not posting (unless I missed it, if so don't link me, I like being unaware) an FPP about her endorsement of Trump or the alleged despicable actions one of her children recently engaged in. These aren't issues with nothing worth talking about...but political discussion is better here when we avoid the tabloid tier stuff.
Take a tip from Mr. Paul Anka.

I hate Palin as much as the next person, but auto-changing her name to Porky Pig smacks a little uncomfortably of some pretty vile misogyny. I wish the script authors had chosen a different term to correct to.

It was slapped together in less than an hour by an individual in response to an Ask with simple instructions on how to change it, don't think they were intentionally making any statements. But yeah, the lipstick on a pig thing is a thing to be aware of when you talk about Palin.

Yeah, if this had been about a script that replaced "Barack Obama" with "Curious George," five bucks says this MeTa would have been insta-deleted. But this is funny because Republicans.

Wow. I hate her as much as anyone, but mocking female politicians of any party for their appearance is pretty low. I'm surprised and a little disheartened that this post made it through the mod queue.

FWIW the script was customizable and I had changed it to "Lard Lad Donuts" as per Paul Anka.

Mocking Obama because of thinly veiled racism wouldn't fly, true. Mocking Palin because of the ridiculous shit she says does fly, because it's that ridiculous. The whole "but she's a woman" thing shouldn't fly because she doesn't get a free card to do or say whatever stupid shit she wants. She SHOULD be mocked as long as she continues to espouse such a long list of nonsense.

Palin interpreted the "lipstick on a pig" line as a comment that was referring to her as a pig. I think it's more than reasonable to disagree with that interpretation of the comment. But, doubling down after her objection by calling her Porky Pig is less ambiguous to me. If someone complains about something like that, find another way to criticize their views that doesn't push that button.
But again, we are talking about the actions half a decade ago of a user that made a script in response to an Ask in less than an hour. It was dumb but like, okay you can change the script to say whatever you want if you want to use it. It's only showing up on your own screen.

I don't see it as tabloid level stuff at all. When she and Jeb Bush are running around blaming "bad parenting" for the actions of rioters, but then disavowing any responsibility when their own children commit felonies, then it's something that is a legitimate topic of discussion. We Palin the elder is setting her daughter up as a role model to be emulated, and forgiven for her "failings" all while her daughter is engaging in the activities she's lecturing others to avoid it's a legitimate topic of discussion. When she blames the President for her son's PTSD when she's a member of a party that's fought to undermine funding for vets it's a legitimate topic of discussion.
I could go on.
This said, I used to have a script that changed all instanced of cloud to clown and I loved it. "Everything will be better once we move everything into the clown." "We'll for the price you can't beat clown computing." "It's slightly clowny out." "Clown-based storage is the way of the future."

But this is funny because Republicans.
Go over to RedState or Free Republic and watch the commenters fling shiat at La Palin. I think many RedStaters would happily bury her in their backyards, while even the Freepers are about 50/50 eager to watch her burn down the GOP/wish a truck would pick up the trash. What I am trying to say is that laughing at Alaska's Worst Family has become a bipartisan issue.

I don't know what I'd do without Greasemonkey scripts. Oh yeah, I remember now - hate what the web's become. It's tolerable now with blocking/hiding crap, silly substitutions and killfiles. Oh man, killfiles.

"Sarah Palin" into "Porky Pig"
One of them is a figure to be ridiculed, a cartoon character that can barely speak English and represents our worst, most inept impulses.
The other is literally a cartoon character.

I mean, if you're uncomfortable with 'Porky Pig', you can substitute it with 'lukewarm bit of vile putrescence' like some people I know do. That seems a bit extreme to me though, since I don't really want to alienate all the vile putrescences I know.

Huh. Porky Pig's defining feature is his speech impediment - moreso than even his pigdom, I reckon. Sarah Palin is well-known for her ability to craft soup out of words. And this script replaces Palin's name with Porky Pig's a) only to the person with the script installed, and b) only as a hastily assembled default that is easily changed. And that's even ignoring the whole attempt to wrest an insult out of the phrase 'lipstick on a pig', akin to the truly herculean effort to be insulted by the 'you didn't build that' phrase in one of Obama's comments.
Maybe it's possible to think better of other MeFites rather than jumping straight to vile misogyny or a knock on her appearance, rather than her words and actions.
