It is time once again for the annual presentation of sitewide comments which we enjoyed reading but which we feel perhaps did not receive the adulation they deserved.

Looking through comments I favorited over the past year, it turns out that most of them have 50+ favorites. But here are some that don't:
metahawk has good advice
nickd knows things about tea
hopeless romantique has an awesome tattoo
If only I had a penguin... talks about a problem with trying teens as adults
Nanukthedog has a toddler who takes things literally
Linda_Holmes has the perfect explanation for why "losing weight is a simple matter of calories in vs. calories out" is not helpful
and finally, this comment from medusa really helped me cope with and reframe early-pregnancy anxiety earlier this year.

As a result the consumption of Bavarian (and most American) pretzels delivers a sub-optimal textural experience as every part of the pretzel resembles every other part of the pretzel. An experience as rewarding as a long drive through miles and miles of agricultural dystopian wastelands filled with nothing but wheat monoculture.

Mostly I'm ambivalent to these kinds of lists-of-comments but the - "I met a girl online and she said she wanted to come to my place and watch a movie. She came over, made it abundantly clear that she wanted nothing to do with me and then stayed - without moving - for three days on the floor next to my bed." comment is both amazing and indeed went way underloved.
What was that.

As always, thanks for this post. It's a great excuse to go back over favorites from the past year.
-midmarch snowman had a great comment categorizing the Oscar winners over the years "...I think the fair way to appraise oscar winners is by deciding which one of six categories it inevitably falls into..."
-aryma's delightful comment "I'm always interested to see who else died on the same day when an obituary for a famous person is in the news - I think of them traveling together on their next journey..."
-Conrad-Casserole's quietly devastating comment "girls are raised to be mothers and boys are raised to be sons."
-Space Coyote gave us the secret Canadian shibboleth (Mazda, btw. Canadians, I love you but it's not Maaaaahhz-duh, it's Mawwwwwwz-duh. Subtle but important difference!)
-JHarris' college superpower (also mine in high school, so high five JHarris) was near and dear to the minds of Evangelicals campuswide
-subtle_squid wrote a fabulous comment explaining that "...It is common to think of other people as being behind us on our path but usually when they haven't passed our checkpoints it is because they are going a different direction."
-Greg_Ace made up a great definition for "swerge" (perhaps funnier if you drive in Houston/Bangkok/Chicago and other cities in which there is lots of traffic and few rules)
-Following on that, grouse explains how the zipper merge could work well (or at least less rage-inducingly)
-Oyéah pulled no punches by reminding us, of the children of Syria: "You remember how you loved the tender, sleeping faces of your young ones, searched for their first smiles, listened to echo their first words; these are no less, and no less ours."
-box spoke for all of us librarians who are frankly kind of over old card catalogs
-zarq's MetaFilter pet peeve was a good and righteous one
-Room 641-A imagined how Ferris Bueller's Day Off would look for the selfie generation (not sure that the kids are still using YOLO, Room 641-A, but otherwise you're er, on fleek)
-jamjam was quietly disturbing as they point out Putin's eerie resemblance to a certain James Bond actor
And many more. It was a pretty great year for comments, MetaFilter.

This one is uniquely targeted at my wife and I, but it has become a part of our parental vocabulary. Just the other day when our son built himself a blanket fort and then sat inside it muttering "This will be the last day of the Republic!" for a half hour, we just shrugged and said 'metal kid' and let him get on with it when he decided he would "become the laser" and ran full speed into said fort.

In high school, we had friends that worked at many local fast food joints and we all agreed that if someone placed a drive-thru order and said the word "Kowpesh" they would get whatever extras the employee could provide without getting fired. This worked out pretty well for most of us, VERY well for the random family who said something that sounded vaguely like "kowpesh" thus ended up with a bag full of burgers, and Not Well for Mike who was named in said family's heartfelt letter of thanks to the owner of the burger place.

In all honesty, sometimes it feels like I'm shouting into an incredibly clever, funny and insightful wind by commenting on MetaFilter, and to see a couple of my comments listed in this thread is really heartwarming and encouraging. Thanks, and I'm going to try and pay it forward and pull up some of my own favorites later today.

Thoughtful comment from penguin pie on colour blind casting
I appreciate drezdn consistently posting MBMBaM threads on FanFare (and the small cadre of mbmbambinos that comment therein: something something, Tevin, maxsparber, EndsOfInvention, etal.)

And that just gets me through December. The first DOZEN pages of comments I have favorited are basically stuff from this thread or the The Force Awakens FanFare thread, so thanks to everyone in that Bantha-sized thread. I've favorited over 50,000 things, and I really and truly mean each and every one of them, so if you have ever recieved a favorite from me, know that you are my favorite.

phearlez on the gay French king's version of Grindr
As far as I know this is the first time, after [checks] some 7000 comments and answers, that I have been mentioned in one of these threads, and it's a grindr joke. To the best of my knowledge the only time I have been mentioned in a magazine was in an article in The Advocate (where the writer cheekily included "who says he identifies as straight" when identifying me). This trend tickles me to death but I am not sure where to go with it from here.
