A sort-of-wake for Terry Pratchett March 14, 2015 9:26 AM Subscribe
I would like to arrange a meetup in the memory of Terry Pratchett. It was great going through his obit thread the other day. Terry's books influenced me a lot and helped me think about so many things in so many new ways.
And I think, it would be a good idea to get together to give Terry a hearty, joyous send off. We could all come togather, assume names from list of characters from his writings, may be even dress like some of them and discuss, drink and celebrate life, his and our own.
We could do this in a pub or something. If there is enough interest, given that the weather seems to be getting better, we could hold it outdoors. May be someone could bring across some diskworld games which we could play.
The idea is to drink, reminisce about the good Sir Terry has brought to us and remember him as we have celebrate life.
I am a bit of novice when it comes to arranging a meet up and setting up IRL events. So I wanted to get inputs from people who have done this before. So,if you feel the same way as I do, lets come together to arrange this. I am in New York.

I would love to do this. But I don't have much experience about good pubs or places where we can do this in NYC.
If someone can suggest a feasible place, I would love to create and manage the event for NYC.
And if we can do coordinated meetups among various cities, that great!!

You don't even have to have a venue in mind to start an event at IRL. Just choose the Proposed type and use your city as the location. People can chime in with suggestions and you can switch the type to Confirmed later once you have a date, time, and venue.

Done that. thanks for the inputs. I was being a bit dense about organizing an event. I thought it needed some prep work and approval from mods before you could launch a MeFi event.
Oh well, It will be great if we have multiple cities holding this wake for Terry.

Pointer to the proposed event. (good job! it is daunting if you've never done it before.)

Excellent suggestion! Hey Bay Area folks, maybe we want to do the same?

I'd be interested in doing something similar in Boston if there's a critical mass of people interested.

This MeTa is a place to discuss more generally -- if people in other cities decide that this would be fun to do in their city too, or if you were wanting to talk about coordinating meetups among many cities.
