Sample new shows on the FanFare Podcast Feed

After recently adding podcasts to FanFare, we decided to add a meta-feed of all currently discussed podcast episodes into one unified feed.

The idea comes from the kind of hodge-podge podcast feeds you can setup at Huffduffer, where I have an account that keeps track of random interesting episodes I hear about online (there are bookmarklets to add any podcast episode to your feed -- I wrote more about how much I like huffduffer here).

I thought it would be great to be able to sample new episodes of things I don't normally subscribe to, without having to add a ton of podcast subscriptions to my player, so I could keep track of new episodes on FanFare I might want to hear without having to always get every new episode of a show.

The workflow is this, copy this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/FanfarePodcastPosts

to a podcast listening tool, like Overcast for iOS, and you'll get a feed that looks like this screenshot. From there you can click on any episode, listen, and come back to FanFare to discuss it. Also, if you happen to enjoy a new show, feel free to subscribe from there so you don't miss future episodes.

Oooh, neat. I have more commuting hours in my schedule than podcasts in my regular rotation so a curated-by-awesome-people "grab bag" I can dip into as needed is quite relevant to my interests.

I've downloaded the episodes of Harmontown and Roderick on the Line and I'm going to listen to them on my way home. Yay!

This is fun. I fear it might not scale so well once Fanfare Podcasts exits beta and it becomes a free-for-all, but we'll see...

I actually think the more podcasts, the better, it would let you hear 20-30+ different podcasts without having to subscribe to them all. You don't have to listen/download them all, you could just pick and choose interesting titles.

When I go to the 'Movies' or 'TV' category page, it shows the new podcast message:
"You can listen to any of these shows by adding this feed to your podcast app."

If I hadn't read this thread first, I would have been confused about how I could stream tv shows.

I have a question about posting etiquette: I listen to many podcasts regularly. I am very excited to have a place to talk about them. Is it okay for me to make multiple posts per week (or sometimes even per day)? Or is that rude and weird?

For example, I listened to the latest episode of Song Exploder earlier today, and went to see if someone else had posted it yet. No one has, but I have already made two other podcast posts today. Is it okay for me to go ahead and post to my heart's content, or should I be holding back?

I think people are experimenting with podcasts on FanFare right now to find out what works. We had a 'one post every 24-hours' rule on FanFare for a while and we eventually lifted it so people could post more. So the system will allow you to post as much as you want. I'd say if people are joining in to discuss with you that's a good sign.

Speaking of FanFare, I'm okay with mild spoilers and prefer seeing the above the fold descriptions of episodes, but this seems pretty major. Am I just expected to hide all descriptions if I don't want to be randomly spoiled on stuff like that?

I figured "big" spoilers would be contained within the thread or maybe at most hinted at above the fold. If I'm wrong that's fine and I'll hide, but I kinda preferred the (possibly just in my mind?) FanFare page that had brief, but not too spoilery descriptions.

No, that's beyond the pale; the above-the-line description on Fanfare posts is supposed to be non-spoilery. (And the FanFare "new post" page explicitly says this.")

Yeah, go ahead and flag those as "breaks the guidelines" and we'll take a look. I'm guessing the OP didn't think it was spoilery for *that episode* because those things all happened in the previous episode. But yeah, it was a pretty big reveal if you weren't up to date. We edited the post so those spoilers aren't on the front page anymore.
