Help me find that comment about parenting done right September 8, 2014 7:46 AM Subscribe
A while back, there was a great post on the blue about people who don't take an adversarial/territorial approach to their kids' sexuality -- basically the opposite approach of people who tell parents of young girls that they're "gonna need to buy a gun, lol."
Within that thread, I think one MeFite had a particularly touching comment about how he was welcomed by his girlfriend's family, rather than threatened, and so when they did have a pregnancy scare, they felt ok going to her parents for help.
I have searched and searched, but I'm not finding anything. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
Though, looking at it again, that comment does not seem to me to imply a pregnancy scare so I could be mistaken.

Are you sure it was on the blue? This thread was here on the grey and was in response to an AskMe question from a father wanting to scare his daughter's dates. The Metatalk post doesn't have much about pregnancy, but there is a bit in the AskMe.

Ah, I misremembered the part about the pregnancy scare, probably conflating it with something else, but it was definitely Blasedlb's comment I was thinking of. BRILLIANT! Thank you!

I had a male friend in high school whose father would clean his shotgun in the living room whenever a boy would pick up his sister for a date. My friend thought it was kind of funny. I asked him what he would do if his dad did that to him when he brought a girl home. He hemmed and hawed for a while, then had the sudden realization that it wasn't very fucking funny at all.

I have a four year old daughter, and I get this sentiment from well-meaning people ALL the time, and it makes me furious. On the bright side, it gives me an excellent (and too frequent) chance to practice the Miss-Manners-approved "Why would you say such a thing" response, so yay. I guess.
But anyway. Blasedlb's comment outlines the exact approach I want to take with my kid as she grows older. I'm so very grateful y'all found it for me.

I only just noticed this meta, but I'm really glad my comment has meaningful to mefites. This is all reminding me to give my old ex's parents a call, its been a while and they're always so wonderful.
