Thank you to the organizers of the Secret Quonsar Swap. January 23, 2014 1:47 PM Subscribe
We've had the announcement threads, the planning thread, and the "thank you for the stuff" threads, but I think we all need to take a moment to thank the organizers of the Secret Quonsar swap.
I know that they are so humble they would disagree, but it seems like an injustice that these MeFites don't yet have their pictures on money or postage stamps or maybe the side of a mountain in one of the Dakotas.
Or, at the very least, a MetaTalk thread created specifically to thank them.
All the MeFite-hours (days? weeks?) they put into the Secret Quonsar results in endless amounts of joy for those of us who participate.
As far as I can tell, the folks who did the work this year* are:
Julen
Arcticseal
Megami
Lampshade
Forgive me if I've left anyone out.
Please join me in thanking them for their hard work and all the fun that occurred as a result. I'm still seeing activity in my "recent activity", showing me they're still working on it. God damn!
Julen, especially, has been involved for a number of years. I used to hang out at another web forum where we had a Secret Santa and two years in a row the person who organized it got so stressed and fed up that they were never heard from again once the swap ended. Yet Julen keeps returning.
So, to you all, thanks so much for the work you've done.
*I didn't go back to look to see who helped in previous years but if you did, add your name to that list.

So pro. Such elf. Wow.
I was seriously impressed with the level of professionalism they all gave to a holidaytime gift swap, a challenging undertaking even if everything goes well, which it never ever does.

I couldn't agree more - it's a great aspect of the community, and that people are doing it purely for altruistic reasons year in, year out, makes it even better. I work with salaried people who are less professional and competent (not to mention less friendly, fun, all around great!).
Thanks guys,

Seriously, julen deserves much of the thanks as she sets up the worksheets so well that tracking is easy by the time I get on board. This is the second year I've done it and I'm already signed up for next year as it's so much fun watching people get excited about SQ. I view it as a way of giving back to the community where I spend so much of my online time.

Thank you, quonsar masters, for doing such a great job with this!
Holidays become more complicated as we get older, especially if we started out with complicated families, and I for one enjoyed this holiday season a whole lot more for having something separate from all the complicated relationships in the rest of my life. A little moment of pure joy! A gift given and received with no strings!
Thanks again and again and I can't wait for next year!

Um, wow.
OK, if we're handing out thanks, we should start with parmanparman who suggested it and Argyle who was the first organizer. Indigo Rain took over, and then we worked on it together for a few years. After that crunchland, phunniemee, and arcticseal were follow quonsczars (I'm still trying out terms for the administrators, cycling through them, running them up the flagpole, etc). This year arcticseal and megami were awesome. Lampshade was slated to be on duty in February, which looks like we won't need since we're at the tail end of the swap now. He also provided some excellent advice last year that was probably super-basic stuff for him, but made a difference for me.
But mostly you all were awesome and expeditious and communicative and patient and good-natured and understanding and delightful this year, which made us more efficient than ever. We needed fewer second chancers, had no mysteries, and only a small subset of you made us shake our heads in disbelief (not always negatively!).
Our efforts this year is on the shoulders of previous years - we learn a lot each year, and the various administrators of the years have done wonderful work in refining our tools and processes, the rules and the guidelines and the best practices, and in establishing the swap as something people are willing to participate in.
Our goal is to be more efficient, have better communication out, and find ways to make everything run smoother next year. So I've been banging the drum in the Thank You thread for feedback and suggestions from people whose perspectives aren't formed by running the thing. That thread is also an excellent place to thank your quonsar if you haven't done so already.

The amount of work Julen, Arcticseal, Megami, Lampshade (and all those who came before) do to make Secret Quonsar possible is simply incredible.
