Poets and Bookworms - MeFiMusic Needs You! January 8, 2014 7:44 AM Subscribe
Over at MeFiMusic, the latest Music Challenge has just been launched - Musicologize a Book. However, not all of us are lyric-writers, so please feel free to join the party!
Is there a passage or character in a book that fills you with words, which you can channel into verse? Does reading that bit, where you always burst out laughing or well up, make you wish you could express all that feeling in some way?
Please take your inspirational ideas to MeFiMusic, where the new challenge has just been launched! It's a two-monther, spanning January and February, so there's a little bit longer to get organised and get writing.
The link above will give you more information on how to take part - please post in that thread, if you'd like to get involved!

I love it.

It would be really neat to try to write lyrics for this, although I have no experience and don't know if I'd be any good at it and am tone mute (like tone deaf only I can hear that I'm singing the wrong note, I just don't know how to fix it. Also I made it up).
I also don't know that I'd want to pick the book or moment myself -- would it be possible to get a list of musicish people and the books they'd like to turn into songs and then we can volunteer to write lyrics for them if we feel the same way about the book? I'd really like to try that.
Thanks for suggesting this!

Oooh, lets do Towards a New Architecture or Learning From Las Vegas! Then we can get a dance routine to go with the music and really stick it to that Zappa asshole.

Yeah, whenever I hear the quote I assume LionIndex is referencing ("Writing about music is like dancing about architecture") I think "What an interesting idea! I think we SHOULD spend more time interpreting architecture through dance! What a fascinating perspective that would be."

Sadly, I'm now learning that the aphorism did not actually originate with Zappa - it's by Martin Mull.

I am SO on this, I have a kernel of a song idea that needs a shove..but I work best with a deadline. Can you arbitrarily pick a date for me please? Otherwise I'll just tinker until late April.

I've got some random notes that could be useful, but I'd need someone to put them in some kind of order. I have a few C# semiquavers, and one minim at around G#. Also I have the upper numeral of a time signature - it's 4. Thanks.

Mrs Pterodactyl - please go ahead and post that in the Music thread, I'm pretty confident that there will be an instrumentalist with an idea they'd love to collaborate on!
BlerpityBloop - the official deadline is end of February! I'll collate the submissions then and post a summary here. So you're welcome to submit after, but to be included in the round-up, you'll need to complete before then, so there's your shove :)

I'm thinking a Dr Seuss/Bluegrass number based on this.

Here is my little mite. I'll honk something into soundcloud eventually but it's a folky kinda beat I'm imagining.

It could also be thrash/folk. That would be good, actually!
