MeFiMusic Request Raffle: The Results! November 2, 2013 4:11 AM Subscribe
The Great Metafilter Request Raffle hove out of town, leaving a trail of happy requestors and celebrated musicians, as the deadline drew in yesterday. The musical trail it leaves behind ranges from the delightful unexpected to extreme aural oddity.
Plenty of requests are still out there being worked on, so no doubt we still have a lot of treats to come. And if anyone wants to step into the ring themselves, I've still got a few lonely challenges in the hat!
However... Here is the complete list of those we've received so far. Wild applause to all these challengers for their bespoke crafting of these musical curiosities.
A genre-bending cover of the Mystery Science 3000 theme by dubold
A reworking of Suture Up Your Future by Queens of the Stone Age by dagosto
An interpretation of music written by a mefite to her wife by greenish
A song about Wednesday by ochenk
The Are You Being Served? theme by uncleozzy
Strange & Beautiful on an out-of-tune piano by greenish
Toad's Song from The Wind in the Willows by swift
An upbeat/catchy song made VERY creepy by we are the music makers
A genre-shifting cover of The District Sleeps Alone Tonight by swift
An over-dramatic, serious blues song about the trials and travails of local politics by abakua
The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" in a Dick Dale surf rock style by TheNegativeInfluence
A food advertising jingle based loosely on the Ludacris song "Rollout (My Business)" by svenvog
A song written especially for a little girl called Evie by not_on_display and jessamyn
A rousing reimagining of Chris Bell's "I Am the Cosmos" by TwoWordReview
There really are some absolute gems here, and I can't wait to hear the post-deadline submissions either. Thanks to everyone who put in a request, and to all the above contributors!

Paint It Black sounds like it should have been played like this from the start.

I'm still working on mine. Really wanted to have it done in time but it's just not quite there yet. Maybe tonight! I'm really close.

These are awesome. Evie the baby for the win!
I am yet to finish mine - ambition has once again trumped ability but I hope to post a shamefully tardy result at some point.

I haven't made my way through all of these songs yet, but I think the idea of a challenge like this was a interesting idea.
So far, I really enjoyed listening to Evie the Baby, especially with those sound effects, and Strange & Beautiful (in an odd way, an out of tune piano plus vocals make the song haunting and beautiful).
Congrats to every person who took on and completed this challenge.

IndigoRain if you're wondering where your request is...I promise it's coming soon. And just to prove that I've been working on it here's a totally embarrassing unprocessed "working draft" I recorded on my phone.
Seriously I'm so mortified I missed the deadline please forgive me

I'm totally loving that, the piano is brilliant. I'd never heard the original so had to go looking for it - it's class what you've done with it. It's not even my request and I can't wait to hear the finished version!

Well that's very nice of you to say billiebee, but I'm afraid you might be disappointed as I've likely gone in a different direction for the final version. Argh creative decisions are HARD

Here is the complete list of those we've received so far
I didn't make the list for some reason but my assigned request was Phyllis Nelson's "Move Closer," requested by an an anonymous victim and upon which I unleashed my inner Serge Gainsbourg, complete with a really bad French translation.

Oh man. I'd love to do a request when my schedule lightens up. Hope there's another round in future. Fun idea.

Strange & Beautiful on an out-of-tune piano + A Song About Wednesday are highlights for me. But they're all great, thanks.
What happened to the MefiMusic podcast? Was that a thing or did I imagine that? I need a way to filter everything that goes on over there.

Oh man. This and the Secret Quonsar thing together makes me all choke up somehow. It's something about the giving and receiving and the care everyone puts in everything; the making and organizing and stuff. It's wonderful. And now my kid who plays next to me is humming the 'Evie baby' tune without even knowing why and that makes me feel connected to people I don't even know! Now I'll go shed a few happy tears. (And apparently a very catchy tune, not_on_display and Jessamyn!)

Jacob G, I'm so sorry I was late with your request. Here it is at last, a slow version of I Will Wait.

Three days late as well but here it is: an upbeat rendition of The Beatles' "Michelle" for Soliloquy.

I don't think mine got picked up either. I see a few people dropped out late from the other thread, so I guess mine may have been one of the casualties.

ambient2, Shepherd, have faith! Both your requests are in the hands of folks who have so far not dropped out, so there is hope yet that they may still show up. I'll let you know if they do :)
