Rizzo from Grease who I kind of (read: desperately) wanted to be growing up.
Sometimes I think that I might have been a very different person if my favorite musical had been The Music Man because I would have based my conception of the world on the song Shipoopi and believed that if I kissed on the very first date it would make me a hussy and so on and at least held out until the third date before I fooled around with someone in any serious way.
Instead, I wanted to be Rizzo and believed that there were worse things I could do than go with a boy...or two. I just thought she was so cool and I didn't want to stay home every night waiting around for Mr. Right, so I, uh, made myself available. If that's what a woman wants to do that's fine, it's not that I hugely much regret it, I just sometimes wonder what Music Man Pterodactyl would have been like.

In college, my entire group of friends did the Jesus Christ Superstar thing, and I was Mary Magdalene. (My boyfriend at the time was Judas, har har.) We were so naive. It went over REALLY BADLY. And not because people were judging us by the quality of the movie, or the musical merits of Andrew Lloyd Webber. People weren't aware of the musical or the movie at all. They thought we were mocking the story of Jesus itself - and I assure you, we were all too mild-mannered to do something that aggressive with Halloween. We just thought it was fun.
Then, a hostile cafeteria worker cornered our friend who was Jesus and said, "You may think you're our Lord, but you AIN'T HIM!" The costume contest judges thought we were being blasphemous as hell, and openly let us know that. People were quite displeased.
On the other hand, when we interrupted a philosophy 100 class to tell our musical-enjoying professor, "HEY WE TOLD YOU WE WOULD DO IT!", the professor tried to engage everyone in a sing-a-long of "Superstar". That was good.

I could probobly pull out a The Dentist from Little Shop Of Horrors from my wardrobe right now.
I was thinking Seymour Krelborne (I've been him before) but then something at the back of my brain said Audrey and I found the idea fascinating for reasons I can't articulate. I've always thought of myself as cis and I'd look lousy in a little black dress but apparently there's a part of me that is unironically seriously into the idea of doing it and playing it straight. Or not entirely straight, I suppose.
I hadn't expected this would be the sort of thread that would make me pause and think about my life.

I've already gone in years past as Captain Hammer, Riff-Raff, and The Phantom of the Opera. (I really didn't realize how many musical characters I'd already done until I actually started thinking about it.)
But if I could be any character? Well, once when I was a little kid my dad was in a production of Man of La Mancha as (among other roles) The Knight of Mirrors and had an awesome costume of mirrored scale mail and a mirrored helmet which he, ahem, borrowed for purposes of taking me trick-or-treating. I still remember it really well, and if I could go as anyone from a musical, it would have to be The Knight of the Mirrors.

If so, I'm going as Clara, because she gets to sleep through like the entire second act. Which is pretty much what I wish I could do for the entire rest of time. Would also be OK with dreaming of a candy from every country in the world.
Also, the costume itself is basically pajamas, so yay.

If I am limited to real musicals and am not just being snarky about today's mood:
I always wanted to play Ado Annie in Oklahoma, also the costume would be pretty fun. Lots of bustle and a tiny boater hat with ribbons and pompadour-ed hair.
I also had a hankering to play the Baker's Wife in Into The Woods. To be honest, this is mostly because I had a gorgeous hardcover picture book of the libretto, and the Baker's Wife had the BEST hair.
Eponine, obviously.
What can I say? I'm an alto. There are like five good roles for altos. Also basically I want to dress up as something where I get to wear a lot of skirt and probably an elaborate period hairstyle.
Or Eponine.

If I could find someone to go with it - the bad idea bears from Avenue Q. That could be a hoot.

Either the MC of the Kit Kat Club from Cabaret, or Katisha from The Mikado (who I've always believed should be performed as a sort of pantomime dame).

I've seen both Katisha and the Duchess of Plaza-Toro from The Gondoliers played by men, to great effect. Although, it seems a damn shame when the ratio of good female to male roles in the G&S canon, especially for lower voices, is so small to begin with!
It's one of my ambitions as a contralto to play the title role in The Mikado, en travesti, in the fine tradition of operatic kings and emperors being played by castrati in the old days. When I pull it off, you can be my Katisha and we'll take the stage by storm.
