Because I'm a little slow to pick up on things sometimes, I've only just realised that the Great Enspousening is the same day as my sister's birthday. So happy anniversary everyone and happy birthday to my sister who I don't get to see nearly enough due to the small matter of the Atlantic being in the way.

I seem to have lost a spouse! I remember another one of these MeFi "Spouse Fests" and I swear I remember becoming en-spousenated to another MeFite, but I can't recall who my spouse was, nor who initiated the "relationship."
Anyway, if anyone out there wants to get e-hitched, feel free to put me down. I would mark a few users down as spouses, but I don't want to be perceived as being TOO forward.
It's just that it kinda sucks when you know you had a spouse at one time, then you find out that you no longer do, and, to top it off, you don't even remember who your spouse was! I don't even remember the ceremony OR the honeymoon!

I am a little worried about how ephemeral these spousing seem to be with people forgetting them right and left. This will lead to more comments coming from broken homes, and, as you all know, broken homes mean more broken links. Perhaps the mods could set up a pre-spousing webinar, so the spouses-to-be understand that spousing is work (well, in as far as you should look at your contacts and find out who spoused you).

I've been a total enspousenating maniac lately, and I don't regret it one bit. Having said that, however, if I've enspousenated anyone who would prefer I hadn't, all you have to do is to contact me via MeFi mail and we'll get a MeFi de-enspousenation as quickly as I can adjust my contacts in my profile.

I have read through this thread and suspect that some of you aren't taking this seriously.
I really like St. Alia of the Bunnies, simply because she's game enough to keep returning to the community, despite all the mockery. And if this bugs her, then maybe the Powers-That-Be need to get off the pot and address her concerns. I think we're a pretty good group here, on Metafilter. We all have faith in each other. But when some bozo undermines that trust, it's time to cut the lawn and trim the hedges, you know?

Hey, I am a relative newcomer. I have not spoused St. Alia of the Bunnies. I have not mocked her. I don't particularly know her but I don't get the impression she is bugged. It's a meme on MeFi. From what I gather, it started as a kind of Streisand effect and has become a sort of in-joke. I have no idea who originally spoused her that started her initial inquiry, apparently four years ago. At that time, the mods did not try to go on the war path and give people hell about it. It seems a bit late now. From what I gather, there isn't much if anything they can do (technically) to prevent it. What do you think should be done socially?
I spoused a few people a while back very quietly when it got mentioned in some other thread. I have only spoused people I felt were very clearly asking for it. If I had any doubts at all, I didn't. I'm a hedonist. I like keeping my fun both good and clean. I don't think hurting people or having regrets qualifies.
In all seriousness, what do you think should be done about it?

Spousing is nice sans confetti and rice, regardless of weirdness that spousing arouses. And mouses are mice, but spouses aren't spice: the parallel plural for "spouses" is "houses".

St. Alia's spouses, we contrary louses
Pressed spousehood upon her when told we should go.
Our suits were rejected and she, disrespected;
Unfortunate, gauche and a very poor show.
So Brandon's abandon in getting a band on
Enticed us and wooed us and filled us with glee.
Marrying Blatch was the start of a batch;
Even XFN marriage is sacred, you see.

Pressed spousehood upon her when told we should go.
Our suits were rejected and she, disrespected;
Unfortunate, gauche and a very poor show.
So Brandon's abandon in getting a band on
Enticed us and wooed us and filled us with glee.
Marrying Blatch was the start of a batch;
Even XFN marriage is sacred, you see.
