Would anyone like to be Fuelband Friends? May 8, 2013 8:38 PM Subscribe
Hello everyone,
I just started using a Nike+ FuelBand bracelet, and I am wondering if other Nike+ using Mefites would be willing to become "friends" so that we can support/motivate one another. We would be able to see one another's fitness progress, and it could be a friendly competition/motivator.
According to Nike, to be able to add one another, we would have share our Nike+ username, email, or our real names.
I'll go first: my Nike+ username is 4ster4.
Thanks in advance for your help, inspiration, and motivation!
I had a Nike+ watch, which was completely awesome, but I haven't been able to find it in a while. If I get another one, I'll add you.

(I don't have a FuelBand, though, so I only get credit for running.)

"Search Nike+ Members" for "Plin" returns 100-odd results and I'm not sure which one is Superplin -- 4ster4 was easier as he's the only one.
(I'm a Nano, running + walking, although do they even do anything with steps any more? They killed off Nike+ Active last year and now my Nike+ seems to be all about running.)

Okay, I changed my nickname to Superplin, which should be easier to find.
I don't think the regular Nike+ counts steps (but the FuelBand does); it's more about distance. So it's fine for walking if you are doing any distance of note.

Please explain the FuelBand to me like I am an idiot. I want something like this, but get lost in the fitbit options and the FuelBand options. Which one to order off Amazon and what will it do for me? I want to increase activity and I want to have better sleep hygiene. FuelBand do anything with sleep?
Further, what do you get by being someone's FuelBand buddy?

Oo. I'm getting a Jawbone Up. I may post something in Meta over the next week to do a similar callout for UP friends.

A Fuelband is basically a pedometer you wear on your wrist that tracks your movements and converts them to a metric called "Nike Fuel." The benefit of having Nike Friends is that you can support and motivate each other by seeing how much Nike Fuel they have for the day, week, or month and seeing if you can beat them. It is just friendly competition and a nice motivator. It does not do sleep. You might check out the Fitbit Flex for that.

FWIW, back when Nike+ was just running and walking, NikeFuel was pretty much just a branded synonym for calories. Nike may have tweaked it somewhat now that they're measuring more activities; they tout it as being a measurement that allows comparison between different activities.
(Although that said, the Nike Running world and the Nike Fuelband world don't seem to interoperate much; I'm friends with 4ster4 but still only the other runners show in my dashboard's leaderboard.)

No, wait: I hadn't noticed the little button above the leaderboard for "All" which does indeed compare all friends by NikeFuel earned.
C'mon 4ster4: hit that goal!
