"add to favorites" links everywhere! January 8, 2013 12:14 PM Subscribe
A request: I sure would love to see the little "add to favorites" plus sign everywhere posts are displayed, specifically on the popular favorites pages.
But it would be nice to see them on the various filtered post lists elsewhere, too, like answered/unanswered in AskMe and My Comments/Recent Comments on the main page. I often use those views to find stuff I might have missed, and it would be great to be able to mark items as favorite for later reading without needing to open up individual posts. Doable/advisable?
Thanks, and happy new year!

Yeah, we can think about this. We've had this request in the past. Especially, for example, adding the ability to add favorites to the Popular pages. The arguments against were about favorites inflation. So making it easy to favorite things from the popular page would mean those things have inflated favorites numbers, and the click into the post helps offset that somewhat.
Any sort of adjustment to how favorites work has its pros and cons. So it's something we can consider but I don't think it's a slam dunk.

I think people should have to see comments/posts in context before adding them as favorites.

No, you fools! Adding favorites from the Popular Favorites page brings the system gain over unity, which could destroy the universe.

Then we should remove the plus signs from the Mefi and AskMe homepages.

I can't put my finger on it but something about this idea just bothers me in my gut. Is this really something a lot of people would want? *shudders*

What about having favoriting another comment enabled while having one's own comment on preview? I've been waiting for an appropriate thread to mention this - not important enough for its own post. (I've only noticed the inability to do this on an iPad, not sure if it's the same everywhere.)

No, sorry zoinks. HTML preview is really intended to be a preview and not another place to interact with the thread beyond seeing how your comment looks.

Ah, no worries. As I said, truly not a big deal, just something I noticed.

You are not logged in, either login or create an account to post comments
Technically, sure, though I don't want to volunteer work for pb.
advisable?
We'd have to chew on it, I think. I totally get wanting minimal friction for when you're feeling like favoriting something, but the current regime only requires one extra click to get that accomplished and it may be worth talking about where the balance should be on fave widgets everywhere vs. keeping the interface stuff a little more streamlined and favoriting as something you do primarily on and at the comment or post in question.
