Also, while I agree with the thrust of your request, you have to realize that everyone reading your polite request in MetaTalk already does that stuff. It's the rest of the unwashed AskMe hordes who never read MeTa that don't do simple, easy things like that. The only real reliable way to communicate these types of messages to folks who don't MeTa is those tiny banners at the top of the page, and they just aren't used that way.

There could me a message in the posting dialogue or something saying "if you are making a post about a specific location, please include that location in the tags for your post."

There could even be a link to a page about tagging best practices, which would be awesome.

Also, tag New York City as newyork or newyorkcity or nyc not New York City because then it turns up as three tags, New, York, and City which is totally useless and arrrrgggh.
