That's a spoiler for the credits of the most recent episode of 99% Invisible, "a tiny radio show about design" by Roman Mars.
The episode is about "dazzle" camouflage and is worth a listen even without the shoutout.

I listened to it this morning, and was pleasantly surprised! A site I care about supporting a podcast I adore -- everybody wins!
And more generally speaking, it's been wonderful to see Roman Mars getting more recognition and financial backing for 99% Invisible this past year. It's an excellent podcast and I'd love to see a world in which he can make a real living off of it.

OMG I listened to that one and somehow did not notice that.
Well, it's 99% invisible.

Also for Put This On and Bullseye with Jesse Thorn. I wonder where else the advertising dollars flow?

Speaking of, Ask also supports Jordan, Jesse, Go!, and did anyone notice Laurie Kilmartin mentioning on this week's episode that she reads Metafilter to gin up writing ideas for Conan? I thought that was a pretty cool endorsement.

99% Invisible is superlative. There's a lot of story tucked into the architectural details of our world, a hidden history.
For those who haven't listened, I particularly recommend Episode 49, on the secret science of queues, episode 48, on the secret bathtubs hidden under the U.S. senate, and I'm especially keen on episode 60, about a Baltimore fellow who leads tours of quotidian environmental spaces, like the patches of grass under a highway, which he has renamed with imposing architectural names and insist are potential shared public spaces.
This is a superb project, and kudos to Matt for supporting.

Hooray for arts sponsorship! And double-hooray for a new interesting podcast to listen to.
Also dazzle camo is really fucking cool.

It was part of the kickstarter for the new season, so sadly that's the only plug you'll hear for ask metafilter on the show.
I should probably also mention that after five years of supporting maximum fun I'm going to be pulling the plug unfortunately at the end of this year. The google ad market is constantly changing so I don't have leftover mad podcasting ad money any longer. :(

Yeah I remember painting a model ship in Dazzle camo with my grandpa way back when. It was a smallish naval vessel, WWII era - maybe a minesweeper or something? Anyway, I never really got what it was for, but didn't think much about it other than it looked cool.

During a summer episode of "Jordan, Jesse, Go!" they were discussing AskMetaFilter and Jesse casually mentioned "Maybe that's a question that ColdChef could answer." Which was pretty awesome, you guys.

I love 99% invisible. Even when the subject is something I don't think I care about, it's presented in such an engaging way that I still enjoy listening. So I learn about cool stuff I wouldnt otherwise

This is very sad to hear matt. Maybe someone more enterprising than me could put together a metafilter team of some kind to donate what you'd spend to support maxfun? I'd put in some bucks in askme's name for sure. I've always loved that two things I enjoy are related, somewhat randomly.

Weird. I've recently noticed that I'm being charged more for ads by Google. I wonder if there's any correlation.

Potomac Avenue, your best bet is to just go to Jesse's main donate page and pledge some monthly amount you can afford. My support was pretty substantial, in the thousands of dollars per month, so I am guessing his future pledge drives will be tailored to getting monthly patrons by the thousands to pony up some dough.

99% Invisible + Ask Metafilter = crazy delicious. Was so happy to see Roman's Kickstarter do so well - it's nice to see that true talent and grit is still handsomely rewarded these days.
Also, you know we gots your back, mathowie. Give the word and the money spigots shall open!

I was just listening to this episode this morning on the way to work thinking I bet cortex would like this podcast. Because listening to the Metafilter podcast four times qualifies me as an expert on cortex's likes and dislikes. But seriously, for some reason that's what I was thinking at the moment that I heard the AskMe plug.
Weird.
