Thanks! I literally just got the news as I was walking to my other job (doing computer drop-in time stuff) because I walked by the town hall and saw the results. I "won" by 15 votes, though I could have, at any point, campaigned and probably finished better. It's not really the sort of thing people campaign for. I'm sort of happy about it, I've been trying to get more involved in my real-life community and this seemed like a good way to do it that didn't involve early morning meetings or an unreasonable time commitment. For people who aren't quite sure what a JP does, there is this handy guide. I really don't know much about it, just that I wanted to help out, the Democrats (who I am not officially aligned with but pretty ideologically aligned with) wanted to run someone, or many someones, and I offered.

Now Jessamyn will stop shouting at me on Facebook for jumping the gun.

That was you? I can't keep real life and MeFi-life names together sometimes.

Congratulations!

For real, last night when we were at a bar watching the returns come in, we wondered if it would be possible (in the legal sense) to get married in Vermont so that you can marry us, because how awesome would that be? Really awesome!

But first we have to figure out if it's a thing that can be done, because it probably depends a lot on if VT recognizes our already-married state as granted by California and Canada.

And congratulations! Again! Because this is great.

JP's can administer oaths in VT. Calvin Coolidge's father was a Vermont Justice of the Peace and swore in his son when Warren Harding died in California. (Though apparently there was then some question about whether this met the federal requirements and he was sworn in again by Adolph A. Hoehling, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Do not settle for a mitre! Any bishop can wear one. Insist on the triple tiara as described by Wikipedia.

The papal tiara is a crown that was worn by popes of the Roman Catholic Church from perhaps as early as the 8th century to the 20th. It was last used by Pope Paul VI. The three-tiered form that it took in the 14th century is known as the triple tiara, the triple crown or the triregnum (Latin).[1]

From 1143 to 1963, the papal tiara was solemnly placed on the pope's head during a papal coronation. The surviving papal tiaras are all in the triple form, the oldest being of 1572, and the others no earlier than 1800

Additionally, of course many many congratulations to Jessamyn, and it couldn't have been an easy one to win coming last alphabetically (I don't know Braintree or its ballots but the results seem to indicate that played a big factor, which is pretty standard.)

They announced most of the results in the town paper today and Randolph had 77% of their registered voters cast a ballot. Not only did I win by only 15 votes, but the school merger (should our town and the two smaller towns create a unified school district) didn't pass by 15 votes. Exciting times.

"Well, well," replied the Governor, "I don't know but
