Disappearing comment? In this thread my posts have disappeared.
Since there was no swearing, nor cruelty to another poster I am a bit puzzled. Further, if the complaint is of a derail, I would counter that other comments referring to Game of Thrones still remain AND the thread was not derailed into a crazed flamewar about Game of Thrones. The comment seem to have disappeared from my history completely. Is there a bug of some sort?

No, I deleted it. A few people flagged in and a few people complained about the spoiler. I have not read Game of Thrones and I've only sort of watched it and I don't know what is and is not a spoiler and what is and is not a joke. So after a few comments and a few complaints that seemed to be centered on your comment I deleted the comment and left a note.

It is not a spoiler if it has not been written yet. Unless something momentous happened in the last novel I was not aware of which, is why the comment did not get the "spoiler alert" preface. Seriously, flagged? Duly noted.
So, if we inevitably have another Games of Thrones post or related to GoT what will be the etiquette on that? I am just curious, on what the parameters of the redaction will be.

I can not keep track of what is and isn't a spoiler of things I have not watched or read. If I am understanding you correctly, this was a joke about books that haven't been written yet?
If it's a GoT thread, we figure people can expect standard MeFi spoiler etiquette. If you're in a non-GoT thread and dealing with people who maybe don't know what you're joking, it may be better to err on the side of not seeming like you're writing spoilers. Not everyone agrees with or uses spoiler etiquette so its absence on your comment didn't indicate that you weren't posting spoilers.
I find the whole thing fairly annoying but without knowing more about GoT personally I just go by what people are saying in the thread which was one complaint and a few flags and they were all centered around your comment. Sorry about that, we do the best we can some days.

I flagged it, because I haven't yet read a Dance With Dragons and I assumed you were mentioning something from that book. I would not read a thread about Game of Thrones at this point (although I might wish I could expect to be able to go into a thread about the TV show without getting info from further along in the books, I'd be prepared for people not to live by that).
There have apparently been 25 MeTa posts about spoilers, if you're interested in a general idea of what people expect in threads about the show/books.

(Didn't see the deleted comment, so no idea if it applies in this case.)

Easy: "Character X is going to die in the next book" implies that they haven't died in one of the books already written.
These are serial fantasy novels we're talking about, there's no such implication. To excerpt a portion of filk singer Tom Smith's excellent observation on the subject, titled Serial Killer:
Book 1: Everything turns to shit
Book 2: Everything is shit
Book 3: We install plumbing
Book 4: The toilet backs up
Book 5: The house overflows
Book 6: We save the house, but the plumber dies
Book 7: The plumbing explodes
Book 8: We resurrect the plumber
Book 9: We discover the true meaning of shit
If Book 9 hasn't come out and I joke "you know the plumber's going to die in the next one" and you haven't gotten to the end of Book 6 yet, you haven't had your surprise at the plumber's fate spoiled at all.

If I remember right, they don't find the cure but they do establish that the strain on the loose has in fact mutated to a non-world-apocalyptic form that can be dealt with via cloud seeding to have it rain down over the ocean (or something like that) BUT the research station itself is set to self-destruct to prevent catastrophes except the strain mutates and multiplies incredibly rapidly under high-heat conditions because it's a wacky extremophile and so then they have to STOP the base from blowing itself up which involves one of the researchers having to climb through a tower dodging LASERS in what is among the dumbest possible climactic sequences of any erstwhile science-y thriller.

The book did it better. It was tranquilizer darts dosed for things lab-animal sized, but with the system programed to keep firing as long as its sensor picked up movement, so if the target kept pushing on like Dr. Hall does, eventually you've accumulated a lethal-to-humans dose. Changing that to lasers and gender swapping one of the main characters were among the few changes between the book and the movie (and even with Rule 63 being invoked, there's only about two or so extra lines of dialogue to account for the change.)
