I am the father of said baby. Mother and baby are both doing fine. Compared to some birth stories I've heard, this one was relatively straightforward.
That askmefi thread the other day about what fathers should expect in the delivery room was very helpful. I did see the "bucket o' gore" and made sure to wear nonslip shoes. I should have brought a flannel shirt though; they keep the delivery room cold and I was getting pretty chilly last night.
We made sure to tell the nurses that no option was off the table. I joked that we didn't want to be "That Couple" who brings the super-detailed birth plan and refuses any sort of pain medication. Even with an epidural, that childbirth looked like it hurt.

Henry's a good name. Two syllables, ending with a vowel. A good yell will really carry that one.
Zompus & Saturnine: Noone probably warned you about this, but you're going to be expected to immediately know his name and age for the rest of your life. So you might want to bookmark this thread, or get a tattoo or something.

Word. Our guy is Paulo Henry and man does that work well in frustration. Mostly during diaper changes, a good PAULO HENRY rings out across the land. I recommend this way of choosing baby names - start muttering the first and middle under your breath as a test for how effective this is going to be during those times when the first name alone just doesn't convey enough frustration.

Our twitter circle of friends has been using "woolet2012" as a hashtag during the last two days, since our last name is Woo. Maybe "woolet" will stick as a internet name until he's old enough to pick his own.

I just do not have enough words for how much I appreciate Mefites/Twitter people/redditors (reddit has an amazing pregnancy subreddit that kept sanity to hand) and everyone else on the international waters of the internet that has ended up contributing to this kid's development and birth simply by typing useful, informative or supportive words through a keyboard into their computer. Even if we've never spoken to each other directly, you're part of a bigger thing that empowers women like myself to greater confidence, knowledge and the ability to ask for help when it's needed. I am totally knackered, it's taken me forever to get back here and say thank you, but I am recovering twice as fast as I thought I would thanks to asking for that help (an epidural and later, a bit of vacuum to turn him around properly). This kid is pretty great. Hopefully he'll make it here in twelve years or so and have his own comment to make.
PS - congratulations to everyone else birthing their babbies this month. Despite all my research, this shit was harder in places than I thought. Easier in some too. Us humans, we're either strong or insane to have made this the anchor of our existence.

Don't be afraid to keep asking for help. There are a lot of us who have been down this road before who are more than willing to offer a hand or two as the job of raising a human certainly takes a whole damn internet village.
(In all seriousness - Twitter is one of the greatest things to ever happen to new moms and sleep deprivation and "Is that thing my kid just did normal or do we need to schedule an exorcism?")
