Much love to all of MeFi! April 9, 2012 7:31 PM   Subscribe

Shoutout!!!!

I asked my first ask.mefi question quite a while ago, and haven't kept up with it as so many people didn't have the answer. *FINALLY* I checked it today and mefi member alyxstarr had the answer for me. The answer I had been searching for, for years! I guess I just want to thank the whole mefi community (I've followed you guys for years before I became a member, actually donated back in the day in the hopes that Matt would offfer me a membership even though they were 'closed' at the time.) So thank you specifically to alyxstarr and in general to all of you. You bring happiness to my days!

(If you can't post this in metatalk... where can you post it???)

Weird, I would have known the answer if I had seen the question.

Saturday the 14th always struck me as a great idea, that I wondered why there wasn't other films like Thursday the 12th or Sunday the 15th. Rather than the expected horror of the 13th, the subtler, quieter and unexpected horror would be much more terrifying.

I didn't like Saturday the 14th though, but the idea is something else, which is why the movie always stuck with me.

Saturday the 14th Strikes Back is the actual movie I was thinking of, watching Saturday the 14th original now on netflix. :D

And thanks to jessamyn for advice on how to word the question :)

This is awesome.

I feel like the answer would have been noticed sooner if the use of Recent Activity were made more obvious to newcomers. I don't know how to do that, though.

That's awesome, wish I had known about that. Going to make that my homepage. :)
posted by one4themoment at 8:26 PM on April 9, 2012

I can't remember if we tell people about it in the welcome email we send, maybe should look into that. I know we talk about it orientation, but no one ever goes to that.
posted by jessamyn (staff) at 8:28 PM on April 9, 2012 [1 favorite]

In mine (and others) defense... we may not read the welcome email in its entirity (sp?). This is 2012 and so much of what is emailed is considered "subpar"...

In fact I just pulled up my welcome email.. unless it's somewhere buried in the faq...

ps Jeremy Preacher is cute.

Jeremy Preacher is cute.

She is also very good at karate.

When I went to orientation elizardbits had already eaten all the muffins and I was so, so sad.

I went to orientation, but left when they brought out the paddle, because I didn't know the safe word.

Wow, was Saturday the 14th like the Scary Movie of the early 1980's? Hooray for you for getting your answer, and hooray for me for retrieving dusty old memories of the USA network after midnight circa 1984.

*boggle*

This looks deliriously awful. A vampire singing about the joys of potatoes *and* Avery Schreiber? How have I never heard of this before?
posted by mediareport at 5:20 AM on April 10, 2012

(To be clear, the vampire doesn't sing about the joys of Avery Schreiber.)

Your enthusiasm makes me smile! Honest, I'm sitting at my desk grinning. Glad to have been able to help out.

(I've actually never seen Saturday the 14th Strikes Back. I just like tracking down half-remembered, this-has-been-bugging-me-for-years, please-tell-me-I-didn't-imagine-it movies and tv shows. Partly for the challenge, but mostly because sometimes you get reactions like this. I like making people happy over the little things in life!)

If I were a rich man, I'd drop five bucks to register Kibo as a username and do the internet equivalent of playing Bing Crosby songs on the piano at the senior citizens' home.

Can you imagine being this guy? Dude must have been summoned all the time.

Not sure if you know, but that's actually $20, same as in town.
