Huh, I talked to him like a year or two ago about advertising. I'm curious how it was recut into something for today.

Matt, according to the archive, it's just a remixed version of the same show.

Hey I just talked to Benjamen about library stuff a month or two ago, maybe I'll be on later in 2012!

WFMU rules. I called into the Best Show for the first time last week.

This is good as I missed it first time around.

I would like to point out that I was responsible for a MetaFilter shout-out on WFMU nearly three years ago.

MetaFilter and WFMU: together more often than one might suspect.

I called into Seven Second Delay last summer, and it was weird because I use Internet Relay to call, so there was quite a delay between their questions, Andy Breakman decided to kill time by harassing the Relay Operator to give personal information about himself, which he is not allowed to do, so it was awkward.

I have fond memories of WFMU from back when it was Upsala's college radio station in a dorm basement and sometimes they'd let me hang out if I was quiet and say out of the way. I'm glad they got out before getting dragged down by Upsala's collapse.

I heard that show! I hope you didn't feel bad; I've never used any kind of Relay before, and I found it kind of neat to see how it worked on the radio.

"Internet Relay" = IRC?

I missed this the first time around, too, but Benjamen Walker's weekly radio show is first-class programming. You can get it as a podcast here. Matter of fact, I really like almost everything on that list under the WFMU broadcasts available as podcasts header.

"Awkward" is a good description of Seven Second Delay a lot of the time, especially when Breckman fulfills his duty to fill up any emerging gaps in the conversation with an injection of asshole. The show where they went down to Occupy Wall Street was especially cringe-inducing in that regard — Station Manager Ken was clearly on board with the Occupy mission and was trying to pass out WFMU T-shirts that read, as I recall, "Eat Flaming Death, Fascist Media Pigs." Meanwhile, Andy was completely alienating almost everyone they spoke to. I'd find him intensely annoying if he didn't make me laugh so much.

WFMU is the best fucking radio station in the fucking world. Fucking A.

Ah, I thought it must be something like that from the context, but "internet relay" was only giving me irc hits.

Its mainly used by deaf people, but me being nonverbal, it helps me out a lot now if Yahoo Mail wasn't down grumble grumble

I'm a radio guy myself, and Benjamen Walker's Too Much Information is my favorite radio show in the country (when new episodes come out, that is) as was his show Theory of Everything before that. He was strongly influenced as a radio producer by the great Joe Frank, I believe (as was Ira Glass, and as I was too, though I'm not in either of their leagues.)

I heard the episode of TMI with Matt last year, can't wait to hear the one with Jessamyn! They're both great radio guests, as I can attest from personal experience.

When I was in high school one of my classmates called me using the pre-internet version of relay to ask me out. I always wondered if it was awkward to be in the middle of a call like that. Of course, it probably would have been more awkward if I'd said no.
