Look for post: don't want to be a gay mom December 14, 2011 10:24 AM   Subscribe

Looking for a metafilter post about a mother who was pro-gay but didn't want their child to grow up to be gay.

It was on a mens rights site that looked interesting. Thanks for any help you can give to finding this!

I feel like I remember reading that fact pattern, but maybe not here? Cue someone immediately proving me wrong.

I suspect the original source material was here (it sounds very familiar) but damned if I can find the reference on MetaFilter.

That blog post Tell Me No Lies linked is really familiar to me too, yeah, but I'm not finding anything on the site so far. I wondered if maybe that link had shown up in a really poorly presented post and got deleted, but no dice skimming through deletions from february or march either.

Yeah, it sounds like the filling for a post designed to incite the user base and probably got deleted.

I vaguely remember seeing something like that on an AskMe post some time. Couldn't say for sure when, though.

I also think this was in an AskMe question and I think it was framed something like 'I don't want my child to have to struggle with the discrimination etc issues that people who are gay have to face'.

this question?

I don't see it there, but that's really interesting, thanks :D

Wow... that's... wow. Between all the people saying "Don't change him you evil person" when the Asker explicitly said she doesn't want to to try to change him, and all the people who think boys haven't started puberty by 12 (!?!??!?!!), that is not a good resource for anyone.

yeah, that thread had little good advice, but the good advice seemed really compassionate. I wonder how that now-sixteen? seventeen? kid and his mom are doing.

The good advice comes later in the thread. Hermitosis' answer, for example. But man, some of the initial answers sucked.

Obviously, answerers bring their own baggage and biases to the table. No matter how carefully a question is phrased, there will be people who answer what they think they're reading rather than what was written. Good take-away lesson there: read carefully and try to be as objective and non-judgemental as possible.
