Display date for IRL events in Recent Activity November 30, 2011 8:54 PM   Subscribe

IRL Pony Request: Slightly more event information in Recent Activity.

I know Recent Activity is a huge drain on the site, and that it is intentionally kept as minimal as possible. However, I think that one small addition would help make IRL a little more functional.

Before IRL, often the date and time of the meetup would be in the main body of the post, above the fold, which meant it was visible in Recent Activity. Now, the date and the time are never visible. I would argue that the date and time of an upcoming event are the most important information about it—you don't need to know the specific location until right before the event, but you need to know what day it is so that you can remember to come.

Would it be possible to add a line in Recent Activity for confirmed IRL events to display the date and time of the event (or even just the date)?

Yeah, we can think about this and discuss it. We tend to get pushback on any changes related to Recent Activity. We recently added the post date and it was not without some detractors. So adding things to Recent Activity is not always as simple as it seems. We also have to consider the mobile layout where there's even less room to maneuver.

I understand what you're saying. If you don't use some of the other tools we offer like My IRL or the iCal feeds, it'd be nice to have a reminder of the date whenever you read something about that event.

ok, just added the event date to the end of the post text. So if you have an IRL thread in RA with a confirmed date, you'll see something like (Dec 3) at the end of the post text. We felt that was less intrusive than adding a new status line somewhere.

As always, pb, you are the awesomest. Thanks for implementing this.
