I'm fairly certain that Matt has to approve posts in the Projects section, so I'm unsure of how this post made the cut. The user has only one other contribution from earlier today and it's related to the site he's pushing.
Comment was in this thread from mid-July and read:
Hello Imperfect,
I just ran a very similar project to yours at www.myemailhacked.com
While doing research on adwords, i found out that you have ran an adwords campaign. How is everything going with you?
I know that we are kind of competitors but i think we can exchange a few ideas.

Yep, I approve them all. Usually I ignore the "zero day" signups that drop something into Projects unless it's a somewhat useful or cool thing. I thought a alert service for hacked email sounded kind of useful and it was an ok looking site, so I approved it.
We probably should institute a one-week waiting period on Projects, it's been something on the bottom of the to-do list for ages.

Yeah, the mods provide pretty amazing service. Huge pile of dirty dishes? Dog peed on the rug? Just make a metatalk post about it, and the problem will be gone before you know it.

Matt has slightly less daggerlike cynicism toward some of this stuff than I think me and jessamyn do, may be part of the deal here. I'm pretty sure he doesn't even have any actual bleeding spammer scalps pinned to his office wall. But yeah, usually if it's a "what's the deal here?" thing about a Projects post it's just a situation where something slipped by him/us, not the unofficial announcement of a new Lame Shills Go Nuts policy or anything, so a quick email is probably the best way to deal with it.

For something like the projects subsite, shouldn't there be a higher barrier to entry, like perhaps a longer length of time plus minimum participation or something? Like 6 months of membership plus at least 50 comments (that aren't all spammy or LOL or I agree type comments)? Or is that setting the bar too high? (I don't personally think so, but wtf do I know right?) :-D

Projects is actually pretty low-traffic. It's nowhere near as "valuable" as a link on the Blue or the Green.

mathowie ADMIN approves each Projects post by hand. That's a fairly high barrier to entry compared to the rest of the site. (It's also why this sort of MeTa post is rare. Oooh, rare MeTa!)

I wish more people would do this when they start a Metatalk thread. Being able to reproduce the deleted comment is important as seen by mathowie's comment:

We can see it on the back end in any case, which can make a decent argument for just sending us an email instead of opening a MeTa thread, but both work decently well.

I know you can see it on the admin facing user side, but this looks like a good example for reproducing the comment in the Metatalk thread, right out there in the open and the site owner was able to see it in real time as the Meta unfolded.

My project, which I am hoping to post, is chronicling life as the world's sexiest 44-year-old, as recognized by People magazine. However, unless flab comes into fashion and my doppelganger Oliver Platt is voted Most Handsome Actor (hm...I guess the latter covers the former), it doesn't look like I can legitimately make the claim.
