Fantasy Hockey League 2011

MeFi Fantasy Hockey League is now organizing.

I posed a link for signup and the login info at IRL, though that was probably overkill to post it in two places.

It's probably best to just do these sorts of things in MetaTalk, it's not a real life thing so putting it in IRL doesn't really make sense to me, but we have metatalk posts all the time about virtual stuff like book clubs, running groups, etc, so it works here.

Glad to see all of the action, we still have five slots left. While I had ambitious plans for the organization of the new league, time and other commitments cut into that. There is not really a good window of time left to organize a full live draft. I think that from here on out we can use this as a starting point to grow and customize down the road. I am checking to see though if the live draft functions like the mock drafts, where non-present players auto-pick from their priority list.

Just hopped in. Totally looking forward to this.

As far as drafting goes, I haven't played anything on Yahoo on a couple of years, but the last time I did the live draft worked exactly like that cgk, if you missed your window for a specific pick the draft autopicked from your list in order.

It does. I think the autodraft algorithm has some intelligence and won't draft 10 goalies if you don't put any skaters on your list, but it will definitely draft people who are retired/injured/whatever if they're on your list or if you don't make one and it uses the default.

I have run through several mock drafts and it will not continue to fill "bench" slots until all of the starter slots are full. I remember a baseball draft a few years back where I wound up with four catchers, so that appears to have been fixed.

If we are pretty certain that the mechanism works that way we could set up a "live" draft and then if people can't be there then they can still have a hand in it. The injury/arrest issue is the main one to watch out for. The default Yahoo draft list is pretty much the players all in rank order from last year, which is at the very least helpful to people new to the game.

Is October 8 the general league start? I am looking for a date to fix the draft.

I'm in as unused baby skates. May not be able to make the live draft, but hoping that I will have a bit better luck than in my keep league draft we did last weekend.

There is one slot left and I have frozen signups until I hear from biochemist, who originally proposed that we have a hockey league. It seems fair to try to hold a spot for them.

Haven't heard from biochemist, I will be on the road over the weekend and will release the spot on Sunday if I do not hear back from them.

If the season starts on the 6th then I would suggest that the draft be scheduled for Tuesday night, the 4th. There is a two-day waiver period to roster moves are essentially frozen for the first 48 hours after the draft. That would let people start to make changes for opening day.

I will schedule it as a live draft, sometime Tuesday evening (10/9//8/7 for N America?) -- our informed assumption is that if you are not present at the draft, you will be in auto pick mode so it is important to set up your draft order in advance.

I will move further announcements onto the league board.
