cat thankyou March 9, 2011 3:28 PM Subscribe
I posted this question on the green not too long ago about the best cat in the world. My little fellow didn't make it through his surgery but I feel confident those who responded helped make the right decision. Thank you for your support.
aw, kitty.

The animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth.I think the title of this post is just fine, smirkyfodder. >posted by Rock Steady at 5:59 PM on March 9, 2011 [27 favorites]

My first, gut reaction to this post was to boo. I'm pretty okay with that being my natural reaction to losing a cat. "Booooo! Go home, the concept of pets dying! BOOOOOOOO. YOU SUUUUUUUUUUCK."
Anyway, I missed the question first time around, as I'm not on AskMefi a lot. But I sure am glad that people were there to help you through a really shitty decision. And I sure am glad to see that adorable picture. Sorry about your kitty.

Poor little thing. Cat thankyou is a great title for the thread. I had to immediately go and wake up my little one and give him some hugs and do some kitty airplanes ( he's not happy with me after the airplanes). He just turned three too and I couldn't imagine losing him.
You gave him a great life. xoxoo.

I had to delurk and log-in to tell you that I just saw your post in my RSS feed, and then went and read the original thread. Your final post brought me to tears. I hope you never regret that you spent the money and gave him the chance. I would quite literally give every single thing I own to have just one more day with my cat, Sweetie, who died suddenly and too young. You are a good person.

Well, I am sorry, too. I have outlived two cats and now the one I have has renal failure. She's doing not so bad now but I know the drill, how the future will go. I try not to think about it too much and rather try to spend my time being as nice to her as I can be, instead.
As I am sure you did with yours.
And, as for the surgery, with that much of a chance, you did the right thing. If you get an animal, you do everything you can for them for their whole life. You can not treat them as if they were walking furniture. They are living, feeling beings. You have to do right by them.
As you did with yours.

It's so very hard to lose a pet, and for me the ones lost in surgery are extra tough. It's a difficult thing to have faith in a situation where you have to hand them over to someone else, and hope for the best. I'm tremendously sorry for your loss. It sounds like your little man lived a very happy life with you.
