36 hours of dodgeball later January 11, 2011 10:31 AM Subscribe
Congratulations to MeFi's newest world record holder, ImBitman! AskMe prep question: What do ridiculous marathon athletes eat?
Hey, this event happened within a few blocks of my house!
Good for you dodgeball players for going to this extent to raise money for a good cause. You make me feel terribly lazy, though. I give to charity via automatic payroll deductions or Visa payments.;-)

Yeah, now I want a follow up. What works with regards to food? What didn't? etc.

Hey, congrats, ImBitman! I was hoping we'd get a follow-up on this.
So how was it? (And how'd the bathroom breaks work out?)

In June, I helped hold the record for the largest gathering of pirates in the world. But some damn scallywags beat us in August.
To the plank with them...

Because I am grumpy and my soul has a hole in it, can I just grouse for a minute that I really hate the Guinness-attempt-as-Guinness-attempt thing, especially for things like this? Like, Guinness should record the longest dodgeball game, but that dodgeball game should be a dodgeball game first. I realize it's really just a chocolatey coating around a charity attempt, but it feels like everything in Guinness is just attempts to game Guinness anymore.

Pssh, World Records don't count outside the U.S. of A. everyone knows that.

When I was a kid I always wanted to find some obscure world record to set and get my name in the book. Never did come up with something. Congrats!
/would have watched, but there's no cable company around here that carries "The Ocho."

What, you mean you want an omniscient Guiness World Record's presence in every facet of life? Like, the second the heaviest baby in the world is born, a breeze blows in from the window and a man in dark, thick-framed glasses waves from the outside, hovering, checks something off of a clipboard, asks you for the baby's name, and soon, in the whirl and the confusion of the moment, all you can remember is the sense of something gliding slowly away, the only proof that it all wasn't a dream being the obsequiously large certificate you are now holding your hands?

Hi everyone, sorry if it seems like I am taking forever to get an update up. I'm still very new to this awesome website.
The event was amazing. It was absolutely surreal to push my body and mind to the limits, with 19 of the most amazing people I know. We ended up raising over $6000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which I am very happy about. There were a couple of rough periods, when it felt like the wheels were going to fall off, but we all pooled our energy together, and got each other through it.
The craziest thing that I had not expected, was the incredible pace that we played at. There was no half-assing it, just to get across the finish line. Both teams were filled with close friends, who loved healthy competition. No one wanted to play for 36 hours and lose, so we pushed ourselves harder and further then ever before. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
I recently heard that the previous record holders are going to plan a 48hr game, as soon as Guinness recognizes us. Looks like I've just started a game of world record leap frog. Stay tuned, and thanks for the support!
