related posts and questions for posts and questions April 21, 2010 11:25 AM Subscribe
Prompted by the recent MeTa post about related questions: What do people think of these "related {posts, questions}" ideas?
Two proto-ponies:
(1) What about having two 'related' panels on each post/question page: one for metafilter posts, and one for askme questions? The idea is that we could also see askme questions that relate to mefi posts, and mefi posts that relate to askme questions.
(2) What about showing two categories of related posts: relatedest among still-open posts, and relatedest among closed posts? (and the same thing with questions.)
It seems like (1) might be a bit tough to do, depending on how the related thing is implemented. Maybe just use the intersection of the mefi and askme comparison vectors? (Is that just tags?) Would that even give meaningful results?
Also, are these ideas feature creep situations that would just add clutter, or would they be overall fun and interesting for all? Would (1 + 2), or even just (1), end up resulting in uncomfortable colliding of mefi and askme worlds?
For (1), I'm mostly in the "fun and interesting" camp; while browsing, it's spontaneously occurred to me as something that would be cool. I think (2) could be cool too, and might even change overall commenting dynamics. It seems potentially bulky or something, though.
Just throwing these out there. Thoughts?

My buddy Barry's getting married so this is part 1 of the bachelor party. We're pretty stoked!

Well. We're still deciding between Castle peak and the Sierra buttes. But looks like we're leaning towards Castle peak. We plan to summit tomorrow night, then drop over to the back side and camp out near frog lake.

We haven't decide yet. We might try to hit up another lake or two. We haven't gotten that far.

Make sure you check out the snow camping threads over at Askme. A Canadian eagle scout has some pretty good advice in one of them.

Nah. My buddy Alex took care of that. But thanks though. Thanks for the heads up on the askme threads too.
