Providence for dinner?

I'll be traveling to Rhode Island for work next Monday (November 30th). Since I know several wonderful MeFites in the area, I figured I'd see if anyone wanted to catch dinner. I'll be working in Cranston, but that's near enough to Providence as to make no difference to me.

So would anyone like to get some food, and if so, where? Cheap is good, a decently diverse selection is great, and healthy options are even better. I'd love to hear your thoughts, as it looks like I have a ninja attack to defend against at the mome

Sure thing!

Red Fez is good. Has cheap options (well, to be honest I can't remember what they have because I always end up getting their grilled cheese sandwich). A pretty decent selection of beers.

Not Just Snacks is the finest Indian place in Providence and is cheap.

East Side Pockets has great Lebanese wraps (finest in the nation, says Esquire).

There's more good Italian food than you can shake a knobbly stick at.

Angkor Wat is a good Cambodian place.

Umm... there are more but my underslept brain is unable to think of some.

Hah. For a second, I thought you meant dinner at this Providence.

I most likely won't be able to make it to this (with all the meetups in Providence I'm bound to eventually show up), but I highly recommend Cuban Revolution.

Everything Kattullus said is true. Also, while you're in Cranston, HONS (House of Noodles) on Reservoir Ave is deeeeelicious.

Wherever you decide, I'll probably be there.

Red Fez, Not Just Snacks, and Cuban Revolution all sound good to me. Any more thoughts?

Will try to pick a place later today so folks can plan.

CUBAN REVOLUTION.

I am all for places that are like, downstairs from my house.

blenderfish: "Hah. For a second, I thought you meant dinner at this Providence."

For me, it's usually the other way around. Someone posts "Hey West End, let's have a meetup!" and what West End they mean is totally mysterious and opaque without clicking through. A city name or a state name in the above-the-fold text (like Eideteker did here) should be required.

While I advocate for Cuban Revolution on the basis of it being awesome, chances don't seem good that I'll be able to attend.

Red Fez is awesome, but not open on Mondays. Which is too bad, since I am hankering for one of their awesome meatloaf sandwiches. I have not been to the new Cuban Revolution -- does it have a layout that allows chatting? The old venue certainly did not.

For what it is worth, earlier would be better than later for me. Sadly, I must get up at a very early time the next morning, so I must be careful. Cuban Revolution is pretty good, Not Just Snacks is pretty darned good, and I know it has room for a group.

Yeah, I have to drive back to Boston AND get to work the next morning, so I'm thinking 6-7 for a start time. gfm, can you speak to the layout at Cuban Revolution?
posted by Eideteker at 5:13 PM on November 24, 2009

Cuban is pretty standard - a few round tables in the middle, and a bank of tables along the side. Best bet would be to get a table on the side where we can smoosh together if people arrive.

I would really love to go, but it doesn't look like it will be possible. Thanks for the MeMail, Eide. I'm flattered.

I eat Indian food pretty regularly, so I'm thinking Cuban Revolution. Is 6 too early for people? How about 6:30?
posted by Eideteker at 6:03 PM on November 24, 2009

Six would be fine with me. Heck, 5:3- would fit in better with my commute, but 6 is OK.

I've invited Eideteker over to my humble abode post-meetup for coffee/beverages - I'd like to extend the invitation to whoever wants free coffee. I live pretty much literally next door from Cuban Revolution.

Alright, since GaP is the only one who replied, I'm going to go ahead and call this for Cuban Revolution, 6pm. If you're going to run late, just let us know and we'll save a seat for you.

Pats-Saints on Monday Night Football. I have that night reserved to hoot at the television.

I have a television at which you could hoot at whatever hour people show up for coffee. Just sayin'.

No, I don't have much meat-space interaction with people who are over the age of 5 and are not my partner. Why do you ask?

Pipe up if you're coming, folks. I could use a headcount.

I'll be there and GenjiandProust has said he's coming.

(Also let me know if you want coffee. I only own so many mugs. I can buy cookies too!)

(I'm so lonely. Not really. But sort of.)

I don't drink coffee, but I'm looking forward to the company!

I don't drink coffee,

Well, fine. You can't have any then.
posted by grapefruitmoon at 7:48 AM on November 30, 2009

Wish I could make it, but it looks like I've come down with something kinda nasty. Have fun, though.

I will be only at the Cuban Revolution. Coffee sounds nice, but it would a) probably induce a visual migraine and b) I need to break off fairly early to go sleep.

So far, I am counting 3 for dinner -- myself, kattullus, and Eideteker. Anyone else?
posted by GenjiandProust at 11:35 AM on November 30, 2009

As to b) I go to bed at ridiculous Old Man hours. If Eide keeps me up past my bedtime, he's not getting any cookies.
posted by grapefruitmoon at 12:00 PM on November 30, 2009

Cool. I shouldn't need a res for 3. See you cats there!

Now, while everyone's distracted by food and beer, I'd better take my chances and hijack this thread... no time, to lose...

careful... careful... I don't want to set off any ala

Drat. I got distracted by a project I was working on and forgot to go.
