I'm in (as David Chong). I don't really know what I'm doing. I'll probably end up regretting going deep on ManCity versus no ManU players but what can I say, I'm a sucker for transfer hype.

They got Adebayor too? Grrr. It's a sucker's game making your picks before all the transfers are in.

ManC will do exactly what they did last season which is toil around. Some teams pick up stars and already have a plan in mind. Other teams (ManC) pick up stars and hope that a plan comes together.
Look at Kaka, he turned down way more money offered by ManC because he could see the writing on the wall. Cue in Real Madrid who got him for a bargain compared to what EPL teams were willing to pay.
Tevez is awesome but he is a secondary striker and plays recklessly. Adebayor is awesome but not great. These guys will not play as a team...

Yeah, you're probably right. But I like Barry and I think he can elevate the play of those in front of him. Spending gobs of money won't make them world-beaters, but I think they can challenge for 5th on the league table. Granted the strike force is a completely different picture now, but if you look at their home goal differential last season, there's no good reason they couldn't have done better overall.

You're right about Barry and I do hope that he slaps those guys into shape but I'm not a ManC fan so I hope they fail. HAHAHA.
Seriously though, as long as Gerrard and Co. do well this year (Top3) I'll be perfectly content. Even if I over think the fantasy leagues I play in and come in dead last. :)

I am actually, for the record, a Liverpool fan rather than a ManC one (how could anyone not be after seeing Istanbul?), but I've adopted ManC as a secondary because the offseason's just more exciting when ownership actually has money to spend rather than buckets of debt & fail.

I hear ya. For myself I usually pick a newly promoted team to get behind, last year was Hull City. I'm hoping that wolves do good things this year but promotion and relegation usually go hand in hand these days. The money obstacle is too much to overcome for most.
Truth otherwise :(

Ah I see, it's under transfers rather than "my team."
Also, in "my team" you can swap out a defender for a forward to do 3-4-3 formation!

I have been running a league in this for years and a friend just joined. he asked for advice and this is what I sent him yesterday. feel free to use or disregard.
- you get 1 free transfer a week. anything above that costs 4 points. try not to go above this. you almost never make those points back.
- don't panic after the first week and think you need to change your whole squad.
- you can't buy all galacticos. spend wisely on players you think will play every game and who will provide points per $ value. (not easy at the start I agree)
- check in every week. you'll likely be using your free transfer to turf out players who aren't getting game time or who are injured.
- you have a 3 man subs bench plus one sub keeper. put some cheap players in there who play games. they may not score high, but at least they'll grab you some points if your better players don't play.
- put in Everton and Villa players. always good value. (2 Everton defenders, 2 Villa midfield!)
- be wary of the top 4 teams. they rotate their stars.
- there is always 1 or 2 players who stand out about a third of the way through the season. buy them. if you don't you get left behind by all the other people who have them in their team. for the past few years they've been Ronaldo, Lampard, Gerard (at times), and Henry. This year.. who knows..
- your Captain scores double. Make sure he is playing that weekend. If not, give the captaincy to someone who is.
- set yourself a target to keep yourself motivated.. eg. getting in the top ten of the league, or picking someone you have to beat...
- watch out for teams that might be playing twice in a gameweek! look ahead at fixtures! this really comes into play latter half of the season when Champs League and FA cup start screwing things around.
